What exactly is the fiber optic for?
I have an NBT retrofit, for which I terminated the MOST loop at the combox. I retrofitted a back up camera yesterday which is when I realized I never transferred the optic cables on the quadlock harness, so they've been disconnected this whole time. I transferred them yesterday, but there's no change in sound or audio quality. What are they for? Or do they not matter because the loop is terminated?

The MOST connection (fiber optic) is only used with some components.
These components are the… Harman Kardon amplifier, 6WA/6WA instrument cluster, DVD changer TV Modul Combox |

Your vehicle solely used Most for the combox which is no longer relevant to the setup you have now.
Standard Hi-Fi non digital amps don't use most since the signal is analog.
