Michelin CrossClimate2?
Hi, I have my old Perelli RFT 225/45R18 tire, I am thinking of switch to non-RFT. I notice this Costco Michelin tire sale, and run into a very popular tire crossclimate2. My only concern is someone reported a greatly reduced fuel economy on Highway (20%). It makes me hesitant. Has anyone used this tire? If not anyone has any recommendations on Michellin all-season tires? Thanks

Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4
since NY roads are in poor condition, consider increasing tire size to 235/45/18. it's slightly taller and will provide a better ride, impact protection and also better handling with 10mm more width. additionally, it reduces the fenderwell gap for nicer appearance. here is a 340i x-drive, 225/45/18 upgraded to 235/45/18...https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...+235%2F45%2F18 although this upsize is perfectly fine and safe many Costco's will not put on non-OEM sizes due to liability. it won't hurt to ask, though... . How do they perform in snow? I rarely drive in heavy snow, but will sometimes drive on light new snow. |

the cross climate is rated #1 for grand touring all seasons and excellent in snow, but will not handle as well as the pilot sport all season 4 during sporty driving since it is NOT an ultra high performance all season. it depends on what is most important to you. |

Your profile says you live in NY. If you live in Buffalo or the like you need the Cross Climate 2. There's no way it gets 20% lower gas mileage. Whoever reported that is a knucklehead.

Have a look at the specs: https://m.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.js...=345YR8PSAS4XL I live in NJ as well and have the AS3+ (predecessor to the AS4) and they were fine in the snow when new, but after half the tread wore down (approx 30k miles) the snow performance drastically worsened and I started sliding like crazy, even with xDrive. In the future I'll be going with a REAL all season tire like the cross climate 2 rather than an ultra high performance all season that heavily compromises on snow performance.

If you scroll through the comments you'll see someone asked the same thing as you and they were told: "They'd (the CC2) certainly sit somewhere between the PSAS4 and the X-Ice Snow. I plan to test this next year sooooo keep an eye on the channel ". That was 3 months ago so I imagine that video is still a ways away. I think the only thing I dislike about the CC2 is the fact that they're directional tires so it would no longer be convenient for me to have a matching full-size spare in the trunk since it would have to be oriented for either the left or right side. If I go with the CC2 I may just get a space-saver spare and keep my extra full size in my garage in case I ever bend or crack a wheel. Would get some of my trunk space back doing this so I'm not totally opposed.

Thank you, unfortunately just checked the Portuguese law, and i can't change tyre size besides what is written in the car registry, i can change, but it needs to be a factory size, for example i could change to 20' but not different tyre sizes...

Purchased a set of 225/45R18 95V Michelin CrossClimate2 Costco discounted online ~$1000 installed 10/22. A clumsy transaction to say the least.. as Costco brick and mortar stores don't have any true connection to Costco online. That being said, these tires are brilliant! I removed Pirelli RFT's. I'm running 3lbs front and rear above BMW door card psi. Still evaluating pressures, but cold weather in NJ could delay further assessment until spring '23. The dry grip, including braking is remarkable... far more capable! Limited wet grip and braking observations/results are equally positive, but less data/events to evaluate, so I'm optimistic and looking forward to more wet & winter evauation opportunities. As of now... I'm satisfied I made the right choice.
Update 12/16/22...light to moderate rain, some slush accumulation, ambient emperature yesterday and today 35°F-43°F , 35 psi front & 38 psi rear. The maneuvering confidence provided is remarkable while advancing to position at high speed. Really well anchored.... Incredible amount of water moved with this tire. Breaking, when necessary...lol..is extremely precise. I have noticed some tire noise on damp drying surface. On turn ins at intersections... you feel the sipes grab in a chunky way. Snow.. next evaluation. I'm satisfied I made the right choice. |
