335i Charge Pipe Damage
Hey guys so last week when I was driving I heard a pretty violent "explosion". Turned out to be my charge pipe biting the dust on my 2015 335i, as I suspected. Luckily I was already on my street so just limped it home. The blast actually blew the MAP sensor and the mount for it clean off. I found the sensor itself in the under tray when I took it off.
Now that I have re-installed a VRSF replacement charge pipe, wired everything back in and re-connected the MAP, the car is still throwing codes and stuck in limp mode. The codes are: 120408 Charge pressure control, shutdown; pressure build-locked 121001 Boost pressure sensor, electric: Short circuit to positive 108A01 Charge air temperature sensor, electrical: Short circuit to positive Things I've tried: Double check all connections of the CP itself (throttle body, flex pipe, intercooler etc) Swapped a known working MAP sensor Unplugging battery for 30 sec and re-connecting I tried clearing codes using BM3 after each step with no luck, codes keep coming back. I did make the rookie mistake of re-installing the MAP with the battery connected (not sure if that could cause any issues?). I'm kind of past my comfort zone and wondering if anyone had any tips or has ran into a similar issue. My fear is that the CP blowing actually damaged something on the DME connection side. How do I go about confirming/denying that without actually accessing the DME physically? Update: I tried a continuity test (which I believe I'm doing correctly lol), first pic is of the car off, second is when the car is in accessory mode. Not sure if these values look correct, but I'd expect it would have roughly 12V with the car in accessory mode as well? Car off: Car in accessory mode: Last edited by pynacl; 03-15-2020 at 02:41 PM.. I don't think you need to be doing a continuity test on two leads from the same harness. You would want to find the pinout of the TMAP sensor and measure the leads with everything connected up if you're trying to test the sensor itself.
Based on the error codes you're getting, and the fact that you tried a known good sensor, your wiring harness is probably jacked somehow. Maybe it's partially unplugged at the DME? Are you able to see the other end of the wiring harness? |

I've got the Bentley manual with good diagrams. If you want I can find it and send you a pic.

If you want to avoid a trip to the mechanic, I'd highly recommend checking the other end of the wiring harness. Seeing as how that mount was ripped off, I'm going to bet the wiring is just damaged. Possibly on the side that connects to the ECU.

Update: car is fixed! The damage actually was on the plug itself that plugged into the MAP. After taking the wires out of the connector, making sure all the pins were straight and reassembling, issue is gone.
