Wheel Alignment

Hi all,

Had my H&R springs fitted today & a wheel alignment done at the same time.

I have 245/35/19 front & 265/35/19 rear tyres & the lowering quoted by H&R is 20-25mm front & rear. In reality upfront it’s more like 30-35mm.

Car feels great, except in the very small amount of driving I’ve done so far I’ve noticed that the rear is braking traction more often than it did prior to being lowered.

Any thoughts on this - here is my alignment print for refrence!

It’s probably breaking traction more because you’re gunning it to try out your new suspension!

Yeh there is always that angle

But in all seriousness it does feel “different” unless I’m imagining it because I know it’s a new set up?!

Should the rear not be towards -1.9 or is that M Performance only?

Make it stickier in the corners or summat

Alignment looks good.

Could simply be the stiffer suspension contributing to less consistent grip. Harder to follow the road contours and more bounce, therefore less grip. Stiff suspension can compromise tyre grip. It is well documented.

I should hope it does feel different... You just shelled out for different suspension components and had changes made to your Geo set up.....

Makes sense, stiffer suspension and wet roads, there will be less grip from the tyres. More twitchy, can't defy the physics of suspension systems.

Yes, always expected it to feel different - however wasn't sure if what I was sensing was just due to my mind "expecting" this.

I've lowered all my cars over the last 10 years and never really had any detrimental (to my driving style / ability anyway) effect on the cars handling or drivability.

I was just concerned that something might not be right as the TC was flicking on more than usual - but having driven it a few times now since fitting all seems to be OK!

Hey guys, just a quick question

I am due to get the wheels aligned shortly due to inner tyre wear, i have radar cruise, lane departure etc, would these systems need recalibrating once the alignment is complete? Cheers

Can you describe your inner tyre wear? Such wear is very rarely a Geo issue.

If its shoulder wear, particularly on the front tyres, this is usually under-inflation. RFT's are particularly bad for this due to the huge sidewall strength.

X-Drive cars shouldn't have enough camber at the rear to cause uneven wear (<1.3 Deg i think), but you typically need over 2Deg negative to cause this, which is easily view-able when looking down the length of the car.

My NSF, OSF tyres were down to the wire at the inner edges

Attached is alignment readings, the guy said to adjust the camber he'll have to start tinkering with the ball joints/lower arms, I thought it'd be best seen by bmw, so didn't go ahead ? Do you think that it could be adjusted or will the arms have to be changed ?

I wouldn't think they need re-calibrating? If a windscreen or the other sensors themselves like the radar unit) but I'd be surprised due to wheel alignment

Yeah thats 100% classic under inflation and sidewalls taking the load.

Definitely not a geo issue.

Hi R99,

Bringing back an old thread as had a question as to what springs you have fitted.

My car is a rwd touring with adaptive suspension.

Looking to get some H&r springs like your setup, but there are 2 options that both look identical;

28878-4

28878-3

Which ones did you go for?
