You'll eventually spring a CEL.

Sorry.
Well, guess I'll have to budget BM3 then , then change the charge pipe... then I'm done lol.

VRSF sells a wire harness that will bypass the CEL, but if you plan on doing a flash tune w/ bm3 or mhd you can remove it there too.

I'd recommend that people just buy a catless downpipe instead of doing this. I feel like if you ever want to put the car back to stock, and since most people live in areas where they do indeed have to do emissions tests, you're going to pay more to buy a working catalytic converter. You can probably find a clean used catless downpipe for $150 or so. And they're specifically designed to run catless. That might not matter all that much, but it could make a slight difference.

I checked their website, unfortunately the bypass is for N55 / B58 only not exactly cheap too, $100 for four 18 AWG wires with a potentiometer (less than $5 worth of parts at any electronic store).

So I reset my CEL this morning before the drive to work, I drove home now and it has not come back yet. I'm seriously loving this mod, in comfort mode the car accelerates like sport+, even at 1500 RPM, I feel the throw back against the seat. Its absolutely worth it. My MPG has gone up 0.3 too, and I have not been driving with a light foot, once in a while at the stop light I get a wift of petro smell, (all windows down and sunroof open) this is not even as bad as a gas lawn mower.

It does smell really bad from behind, you just can't detect much in the cabin, in motion. Have someone drive your car and stay back like 2-3,000 ft, you'll distinctively smell it.

I was into the racing scene when I was younger and I strait-piped everything from headers back, so I know exactly what it smells like from outside the vehicle. I actually don't mine the odor on like a hoopty or a dedicated racecar but not on my daily driver.

You gutted yours already ? How was it ? CEL still didn't come back yet for me and I've been driving it hard. I'm hoping after a few resets it'll stay off for months lol.

Yes, enjoy the mods slowly, don't do it all at once, every new mod is like the tip half in, savor the special moment. Don't blow it all in 10 seconds.

It's pretty hard to diagnose issues if you just slap all the parts on at the same time. It's a decent idea to add a part, make sure it works, then add another, and so on.

Just an update on the CEL, its been well over a month and no CEL has tripped since initial CEL reset at the beginning. I'm living proof that the defouler still works, on the N20 anyway.

Just a quick 5 months update, so I have been using 2 spark plug defoulers on my 2nd O2 sensor since I gutted my cat in May. The CEL has came on once after 2 weeks, I cleared it with bimmerlink, it's now 5 months later and CEL has never came back. I am living proof the spark plug defouler O2 sensor trick still works for literally everyone saying it won't work on our cars.

It sounds exactly the same as stock, I didn't touch the muffler and resonator, my wife hates loud cars. The only difference is on cold start, the engine ticking noise is 10 times louder, I never thought the cat was also the ticking noise filter.

100%. How much is a catted high flow DP 800-1000? Crushing the environment to save a grand + all the waste of time BS to make it work correctly. C'mon man, you are driving a 40-70k BMW.

And in a few years it'll be a 10-15k BMW. Will it be ok then? Or are we only judging the price on mods base on the original MSRP? If I talked the dealer down $10k, can I do it?
