Check if your BMW is Affected by a Recall
There's an online Recall checker on the BMW Australia website.
You can search for any outstanding recalls for your car by entering either the Rego number or VIN: https://www.bmw.com.au/recall If recalls are found, the checker allows you to submit an enquiry to your preferred BMW dealer. The major recall at the moment is the Takata Airbag Safety Recall. Although my car is not affected by the Takata recall, I found 2 other recalls which I assume to be minor. |

Thanks, our car was only in for service in April and I asked about it but they didn't seem to know at that stage.
I just checked on the link and our MY16 F31 comes up as part of the recall. Our car is due for a service check in July so I will ask them to do it then. Did you need to book it in or anything? Does it take long? |

My recall isn't related to the airbag. I submitted an enquiry via the recall checker and the dealer responded that they are waiting on parts, so I haven't booked my car in yet.
I'd suggest you contact your dealer to make sure the required parts are available prior to booking your service. |

It seems most cars including F3x's are affected by the Takata recall.
They are just delaying the official recall. They wanted to change my airbag months ago (pre any recall) but didn't have stock. The theory is if the airbag is <6 years old it is okay. I'll be asking if the replacement is a permanent fix. Will be less impressed if I have to replace it again in a few years. Very unimpressed that that this was a manufacturer known issue when I bought the car - yet I have a dodgy airbag. |

It looks like the Recall checker has been updated.
I have an E90 and originally ran the checker in June but it only found 2 minor recalls. I reran the checker yesterday and it's now reporting 3 recalls including the Takata Airbag (driver side) defect. I've booked my car in at the local dealer. Note: The table of BMW models affected by Takata Airbag Recalls has also been expanded (refer to link for updated list) https://www.bmw.com.au/recall |

Thanks for the info.
Just checked mine, 2015, and looks like i will have to change my airbag. Current status is "Future recall (no action at this stage" But also says... Your vehicle's airbag is faulty and it could kill or seriously injure you or other people in your vehicle from when it reaches six years after its year of manufacture. There is no immediate known risk with the airbag, but there will be in the future. Please arrange for the free rectification as soon as possible after 1 December, 2018. |
