What colour / wheel combination did you go for?
why on earth would you have a Golf R estate if you had an RS6 !?

I think he (or she) works for VW / Audi. Always a couple of new machines on the drive. Golf R hatch recently, and a Tigun

Present company excepted, but tonight I know why I can never buy a golf R. Sat in petrol station, I was filling up with diesel and a young guy in an R starts it up, revs the nuts off it about 6 times so everyone looks, drives out and then proceeds to drive round and back in again and parks up to the side.. Presumably to do it all again in a minute.. Sad.

They will be , and are a good buy used now but I just cringe at the image which is a shame as no doubt it's a great all rounder, I would just rather have a GTi, they are way less common at least in Norfolk. I see 3-4 Rs most days and only occasionally a GTi.

On PCP will work out more expensive than contract hire on the R.

Can get hatch lease deals for around 250 all in pm with about 2-2.5k down, based on 24 or 36 months and 10pa

Assuming AUC used, with cheap PCP finance from likes of Halifax (5.9%), 2.5k down, 10k pa, 36 months, GFV would most likely be below 10k, but even using 10k as an example still works out to 350pm being very optimistic, so not worth it at all.

Only time it would be worth considering is of you're looking for a highly specced car which makes contract hire more pointless.

Suspect you're spot on there, especially as the excess mileage rates on the deals on new Golf R's seem pretty generous (which means you can take a contract at only 8k or 10k/annum and even if your mileage is a lot higher it still works out quite cost effective overall).

well true but that's only relevant if you consider the monthly cost is the only number that matters and don't intend to ever buy a car outright. Bottom line is a £23k car costs less than a £30k car - especially if you go with Halifax or someone and pay 4% APR rather than their ridiculous AUC 10.9%..

No question there are some great R lease deals around if you are happy to pay out then hand back.

A week into the ownership of my new Golf R and have to say absolutely loving it, everything I hoped it would be and then some.

Pleased with the colour choice too (Reflex Silver) as it's very understated looking and so far not drawing any unwanted attention.

Glad you're enjoying it.Would be interested to know what you're getting out of a tank.Following the Pistonheads thread, off the top of my head,I've read as low as 24mpg.
I know it's not what you buy one for,but as a main car I would have to be a bit sensible-hence why I'm toying with the idea of a 340...

We have only clocked just over 200 miles from new and the trip computer is showing 24.6mpg. Our Fiesta ST it has just replaced had a long term average of 31mpg due to all the short journeys my wife does in the car so it's not concerning me particularly, if it was high teens I would have been more interested.

Just trying to resist the urge to have the Revo stage 1 map added, promised myself I would wait until next year to be sure all is well with the cars components.

Just saw the announcement and some pictures from the Golf VIII which should be available at 2017. Really nice looking car and this would definitely end my short Bimmer-excourse after 32 years driving a VW and go then back to the roots. For my upcoming R I'll take as color the lapiz blue met with the black rims and the blue roundstrip.
