Assuming I get a call from Vines of Gatwick (as suggested above), they are actually my nearest dealer, which is handy

That's a very kind offer. As much as I like a trip to Yorkshire, that's a long way for test drive.

Slightly miffed nobody has called yet though. I guess it said I'd get a call within 24 hours, so they've still got half a day left.

Turns out the Vines assumption was incorrect. Had a call from Sytner High Wycombe this afternoon. Now waiting for them to email me the quote.

He was very keen to point out that I won't get a better deal anywhere else

How odd! - Perhaps the dealer rotates for the region or something, or Vines no longer work with Coast2coast. If you fancy a ride in a 340i touring - give me a shout - we’re between Horsham and Brighton

I appreciate High Wycombe is fairly south for the country as a whole, but it's still an arse to get to from Sussex. I'll certainly see if Vines or Chandlers can price match. Also need to try TRL.

As it happens, we're also between Horsham and Brighton. Closer to Horsham, but we can't be too far apart. If you're happy to give a complete stranger a ride, I'd happily accept . I'll ping you a private message.

Thanks,
Ian.

I’ve mentioned this before but I don’t think I’d be going brand new for a model that has felt dated for some years now and is imminently due to be replaced.

If you can’t wait for the new model what about Audi? Their models are much more up to date than BMW’s, in fact their A4 has just had a mild facelift, the previous one was already newer than the F30!

F30 is still a better car to drive and looks better plus its cheaper.

I see what you're saying, but it's still going to feel like a spaceship compared to my E46, let alone the E30. Even if it's not the latest model, it's still a damn good car with a cracking engine.

Never been a fan of Audi's. All a bit clinical for my liking. Not a fan of 4WD either.

The A4 has become such an exercise in tedium that I am not even sure I would spot the facelift.

I guess it's a bit bigger, but if i fancied VAG tech and oily bits then it would be hard to look past the Skoda Superb. Much better looking than the A4 or Passat and probably a similar drive.

Go for it. I've been very happy with my 440i despite reading of the supposedly poor and dated interior. In reality it's nip and tuck based on spec.

I've spent a lot of time in showrooms recently looking at replacements for my wife's car and rarely get back in the 440 and think 'dated' or poor quality. The two exceptions being the MY18 Range Rover sport and Cayenne 3, both of which are on a different price level and have tech and material quality that blow away any Benz or Audi at 3-series level.

Importantly, BMW iDrive tech is best in class and still makes more modern cars look dated in that respect.

The 40i engine will make you smile for every journey. It's spoilt me and makes the next car decision all the harder.

Like you, I jumped a fair way - E90 320d to F36 440i.

Did i say go for it?

To be honest I’d be seriously tempted by the Superb next time round as well. Saw a lovely looking ‘black edition’ or whatever the Skoda equivalent is the other day, looked ace!

I like the Superb too but have you crunched the numbers?
Because I did last week and the following are the overall cost over 4y on PCP with 8000 miles with the best discounts on Carwow at main dealers for new cars

Superb L&K Estate 280 petrol = £22,500
340i Shadowline Touring = £24,000
540i MSport Touring = £27,000

Is the 340i worth £8/week more than a Skoda? Hmmmmm, let me think...
Is a 540i Touring worth £14/week more than the 340i, Im honestly not sure

And finally just for fun a 530d Touring is currently available on a 2y lease for £9,900, which is £412/month averaging total cost of deposit and monthlies not forgetting lease quotes include road tax. In the above illustrations which are admittedly 4y terms on PCP the 340i is £525/month and the 540i £587 after adding road tax.

I have honestly never treated car purchases like white goods until bagging my current lease, its rather illuminating.

Not if you need space. Our Octavia is massively bigger in boot size than my old 3er, and more interior space too. The Superb is more spacious still.

Interesting numbers but in terms of the Skoda/340i comparison are the figures like for like in terms of spec? I'm not really up on what comes as standard on Skodas but as the Superb sits towards the top of their range does it come with a lot of things which are extra on the 340i? Suppose it's not an issue if you're not bothered about some or all of those features but if you are I guess it could increase the monthlies on the 340i quite considerably and therefore make the cost difference between the two rather more significant?

And much as I like petrol I have to say I struggle to see how a 540i Touring can be worth over 40% more on a monthly than the 530d equivalent; the 530d sounds a decent deal at £412/month, which lease company is offering that?

The original quote is expensive that's more than I'm paying for a loaded 340i with 20k a year mileage. Will DM you OP.

Assume the 1.9% finance is what all dealers are giving on a new 3-series at the moment but what sort of discount are Sytner High Wycombe offering?

Its an L&K which is the top spec model, same as our Octavia, there were hardly any options left to add!

Leasehub, although that deal was snapped up:

https://leasing.com/independent-brok...ies/315946247/

Prices are dynamic and are currently about £50/month more expensive making the leased 530d just over 11k for 2y of motoring

As above. Used TRL last September, he's a legend, you need to speak with him. I mentioned his name to a local dealer who promptly stated they wouldn't be able to get anywhere near him and advised me to use him, I did :-)

I'd like to give a massive thumbs up to Malone for allowing me to test drive his 340i Touring . Cracking car, and looks superb in white. I'm now even more sure that I need one of these in my life.

What was even more unbelievable, is that we not only live in the same sleepy village, but we live on the same road. Can't believe I've never seen him driving past, or heard the fantastic MPPSK.

Massive thumbs down to Sytner . Still no word from them.
