A quick question.

What are the symptoms of an EWG failure? I hit the rev limiter today responding to an out of state family emergency and heard a pop. Getting error that max power output is not available and I think I hear the turbine. Unfortunately I don't have a code reader. The engine stumbles a little at start up. Top side of the charge pipe appears to be intact.

The car is sitting as I'm not supposed to drive home until tomorrow afternoon.

I'm wondering if I can limp the car home.

2015 435i N55, MPPK. 60k miles.

Can you scan for codes? Do you have anything to check WGDC in real time?

I am not sure if you are asking about failure of the wastegate or failure of the turbo. I've hit rev limiter a few times on accident and its usually a soft limiter meaning it doesn't "bounce" like older cars. If the WG fails you just wont be able to spool the turbo and it should be clear from monitoring or logging boost or WGDC.

No code reader. I'm wondering if the WG fails in "open" condition. I'm also not certain how the car handles boost pressure when engine hits the limiter. I'm guessing it dumps boost via the WG.

No sure about the first question, but the WG doesn't dump boost it can only prevent more boost. Boost is dumped via the DV

I'm wondering if the issue is either the air intake/turbo inlet or the turbo to intercooler charge pipe (passenger side) and not the charge pipe side (driver's side).

I would think you'd be able to hear the turbine a bit better if the turbo side had a leak or issue than the charge pipe side.

I found the break at the throttle body. Was able to use duct tape as a temp fix and get home.

Yep. Vehicle is currently at an Indy getting repaired. Overpaying perhaps but it is what it is.

Although the OEM CP was apparently redesigned, still recommend aftermarket over new OEM for both price and longevity.

I am not entirely sure unfortunately. I have only seen someone post a picture of the redesigned one and has a modified "collar" at the TB side where it typically blows.
