So did I, 30y ago :-) Worked on BMW for 5y.

They are in SB /CA and listed as Birds Dealer.
http://www.hpashop.com/Quaife-LSD-BM...-Automatic.htm
They have just listed the LSD for the Auto as far as I see.

But Birds in the UK http://www.birdsauto.com/ is distributing/shipping the Quaife worldwide.
Quaife would have LSD for all Models (Auto/Manual)
http://www.birdsauto.com/quaife/sear...mw&s=30180&mi=

Maybe HP Autosport can order it for your car.

Am I the only one confused and concerned that the ZF8HP45 transmission us automatics have has a torque limit slightly less than stock torque on an MPPK tuned N55?

I don't have MPPK but I'm tuned Dinan S2 so my torque is way above the limit, and since I plan to add a flash tune, meth, and Pure S2 turbo in the future, I can't imagine the transmission will last very long.

I'm concerned too! But so far haven't had any slippage...it's been 1k on 400r+, so only time will tell!

Check this out. Looks like the LSD is coming for the manual transmission now from BMW.

It has part number: 33108659988

Does Quaife offer LSD for xDrive? Or any other manufacturers? I really hope someone starts making them soon if it's not out there already. That would be such a fantastic handling experience. I'm loving my Dinan springs so far along with shockware, and when Bilstein adapts the B16s for F30 with EDC that would be beautiful. I'm not sure they will but since they have it for the F8X now and it's a very similar chassis to the F3X I think they could with only minor engineering changes.

From my last correspondence with James from Bird's Garage:

James Bird [mailto:james.bird@birdsauto.com]
Exchange diff 2013 xdrive

We do indeed, the price will be the same as it was for your LSD. We have the exchanges in stock and ready for both the manual and automatic versions.

Tell him to email me with his VIN if he'd like an offer.

All the best, James

So, send James the VIN..
Good luck,
/Krelle

Doesn't it [DSC Off] change throttle and steering settings to comfort though?

Yes for the throttle part not for the steering wheel. I always hated sport throttle anyways. Always drove dsc off. Most easy to modulate the throttle.

What exactly is the difference in the throttle, I've never run logs of what the sport settings change. Personally I think I like the sport throttle better.

In sport throttle your 0 to 100% throttle is reached over just 20% of pedal length.

In comfort you have to use full 100% pedal length.

I find it a lot more convenient to play with 100% pedal length than 20%. But thats personal preference

So the install specifies about 1-2 hours of labor. Anyone know of a DIY guide for this?

You'll be in need of the bmw puller, a lift and the lifting/holding device to hold the diff. which is quite heavy.
You need an extra guy when you loosen the diff.

1-2 hours is not enough unless the car is brand new.

Don't forget to buy 2 ltr., (min. 1,2 ltr.) of Titan Sintopoid 75w90 fully synthetic gear oil. (some other oils are approved..).

Not sure what the BMW puller is but I have access to a lift, air tools, and a transmission jack.

I'm leaning towards the BMW M Performance LSD over the Quaife because a reputable shop said they would need the car for an entire week to do the Quaife LSD install. It's my daily driver so I'm not going to have it down for an entire week for a LSD install.

There are two way's of getting the Quaife diff.
1. Like your shop which likely take it of and get it modified. -Then mount the same diff. again.
2. You pay a deposit and get the overhauled Quaife diff. -Dismount your own and mount the new in one go.
Then return your old diff. to Quaife.

Based on the formal estimate, it was Option #2. They have pre-built diffs and would just need to remove current and install new diff. It just didn't seem like a week would be necessary.
