Parasitic Drain On Battery

13 335i F30 w/ 146,340.

This morning, would try to turn the starter. Jumped it and drove for 45-60 minutes. 13.8VDC+ from alternator. Battery charged to 12.9 VDC.

Sat in Garage for 4 hrs- dead! Jumped and off to Batteries Plus: Alternator output 14.3 VDC and Battery checks good- (1 yr old). With engine off and their diagnostic device attached, we could see the drain and tester indicated a parasitic drain somewhere. Could see the drop when pump turned on.

Brought home. Put meter on battery terminals in engine bay. Turned off engine and took fob to the furthest part of the house. All doors, trunk closed and hood up. Started log at 1720, 12.9VDC/1733, 12.38VDC/1806, 12.06.

Water-pump was STILL running. Do I have a failing/failed temp sensor? Bad thermostat? Any insight which fuse controls the pump? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Woody

Something is AFU. You need to use an OBD diagnostic tool to find the fault codes.

Agreed. This also happened about a year ago. My shop couldn't find any codes. It "cured" itself after I left the battery Neg cable disconnected overnight. Go figure!

Will go back to the shop on Monday/Tuesday to see there area any "fingerprints" this time.

I left the Neg cable off last night from about 1800 til 0350 this morning. reconnected Neg and put meter on it. Showed 12.67 VDC and held until I unlocked the doors and woke everything up. Dropped to 12.46 VDC for 2-3 minutes when the car went back to sleep, then climbed back up to 12.67 VDC.

Went to work at the Cape and, being cautious, disconnected the Neg until ready to come home this afternoon. Once home, left all connected. Just checked after 2 hrs and meter reads 12.74 VDC AND the water-pump is not running like yesterday. Weird! I absolutely HATE intermittent electrical gremlins!!!!
