BKOMBI to 6WA Retrofit Help Jump to Latest

Hello!

I hope you're all doing well.

I have a used 6WA cluster I would like to retrofit into my 11/2014 F22. I took the unit to a specialist to have the donor VIN changed to mine.

After installing the 6WA in the car, I have written 6WA FA to VO and had to delete BKOMBI from SVT tree as reading from VCM kept on returning BKOMBI only. However, even after doing so the 6WA KOMBI cannot be detected, even after reading ECU. I have also connected ISTA+ to verify the control unit tree and KOMBI is shown as not responding. I have connected the HU and KOMBI via MOST.

My HU is a non-nav HU_Entry / CHAMPS2 (Magneti Marelli MED) with an aftermarket CID Android Screen. This Android screen comes with a digital cluster option which functions correctly, but it shows 0KM and 0L all the time with 6WA in the car. With my original BKOMBI it shows the actual figures.

Although the 6WA is not detected, this is the list of functionalities that work without an issue:
  • cluster lights up correctly and dials change colour with driving lights on/off
  • displays correct outside temperature
  • reads vehicle speed correctly
  • odometer DID NOT update to my car's mileage but it does increase while driving
  • efficient dynamics display is getting correct data
  • driving styles display changes (sport, sport+, traction etc)
  • blinkers and hazard warning lights are displayed and sound is heard
  • high beam lights on
  • oil temperature gets correct reading
  • digital speed reading is correct
  • fuel consumption reading is correct
  • some faults i.e. open hood or parking lights on
  • ignition on light
  • there is no tampering red light

and now a list of functionalities that DO NOT work (which I know are normal):
  • fuel tank level
  • engine speed
  • date and time do not update and changed in iDrive
  • permanent parking brake light
  • various faults i.e. check cabriolet roof latching (although my car is a coupe)

I have also tried to access the hidden menu by holding the KOMBI button and unlocking but it did not allow me (as if the combination code was incorrect). Then I went into IDENTIFICATION and can see SWFL 1 correctly and VIN in asterisks like so - *******.

The I-Step level of my vehicle is F020-16-03-501 and all I know is that the one of the 6WA is newer since it is a 07/2017 unit. Could this in any way be related, since ZGW and HU's firmware is older than the 6WA? Could this cause the ECU to not be detected by E-Sys and ISTA+? I'm now thinking it could be since KOMBI's dependencies include ZGW and HU (+ CMB_Media, but I do not have it in my car). Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd greatly appreciate any and all help.

Kind regards

You wrote Ą I have written 6WA FA to VOď.
But i don't read anywhere that you also coded the HU_Entry with the 6WA.

Hello, thank you for your response.

Thatís correct, I have added 6WA to FA SALAPA ELEMENT and written it to the car.

I have not coded the HU_Entry with anything as I didnít know that was necessary. What in particular should be coded for the 6WA to be detected correctly?

If you only add the 6WA and write it to the car nothing changes.
It is the same as if you take a piece of paper, write 6WA on it and put it in the glove compartment.
You also have to code the HU with the changed VO.
This normally activates the MOST on the HU and only then the new BKombi can be recognized.
So load the new VO, mark the HU_Entry and hit the button "Code".
