That's not completely true.
Firstly it actually takes between five and six years to develop a car. Secondly car makers constantly strive to reduce the time needed to develop a new car. The reduction of development time and therefor lifeclycle duration is one of the biggest trend in the automotive industrie.
People should get used to faster iterations.

This is a poor counterargument to the point being made by the above poster. Even if car manufacturers could develop new cars in 2 years , they would still wait the requisite 5-7 years before releasing and selling the new model for the exact reason mentioned by the above poster : so people making a 50k+ purchase don't resent their purchases when a new better model is released shortly after.

Is the 435i GC faster than the 435i in 0-60mph by 0.1 second for the same reason that the 435i is faster than the 335i in 0-60 by 0.1s ?

It looks great. But then again, the base is so damn good from the start imo (F30).
I'd like to see the 3 series next to the 4GC, just to see how close the look, and what it different.
A great car, and the 4 badge makes some sense, this will sell well!

I think this actually looks pretty good. The lack of a MT kills it for me though. Can't wait to actually see it in the metal.

3. No manual transmission.
Just be patient:

1- there will be an Xdrive version of the 435, like there is one with the 435 coupe. I can't imagine BMW not offering Xdrive to compete with Audi.
2- That's a sunroof I see in this interior pic (top)
3- It will be available in manual like the regular 4 series and 3 series. Heck even the M6 grand coupe is available with the 6MT...

IMO, it think it looks great and almost similar to the 4 series coupe with the extra convenience of the hatch and 2 extra doors. I'm quite certain that in real life, it will have much more presence than the 3 series thanks to its lower roofline and wider tracks...

I like it better than the early mules that we've seen. In fact I like it better than 3 series.

Unfortunately, unlike the 6-series Gran Coupe, it does have some bad looking angles that BMW is trying to hide in pictures and movies. It looks like a struggle between the design team and the ergonomy team (that was won by the ergonomy team and this is too bad).

At the same time, I think that if money is not an issue, the 4GC would be the choice between the sedan and the Gran Coupe. But the M3 sedan is still probably looking better in my book than an ipothetical M4 Gran Coupe. The Gran Coupe roof line is just not aggressive enough.

Wow, im surprised how small of a price difference compared to the 3 series. I can understand the frustration for anyone who prefers this look.

Too bad it's more 3 GT than a smaller 6 GC.

The problem is the window behind the rear door.

If I had known that they were going to make a slightly sportier 4 door sedan under the 'coupe' moniker, that was not far off in price (at least from a well appointed 3 series)... I would likely have made a different buying decision. Which is now making me regret (or at least resent) my purchase.
Lease people, lease.

It's rather genius.
The F30 has just become the CLA.

Does the A5 sportback sell in sufficient numbers to warrant a rival?

It looks great but I can't help feeling like it will steal sales from the 3 series more than it will from anything else.

What was it again? 3 series = 4 doors and 4 series = 2 doors?!

I'm confused!

+1 !!

This looks like a 4 series with 4 doors, and not like a 3 series.
Personally I prefer the sedan look. It's nice people have a choice.

My BMW intuitions tell me this car will be offered with 3 pedals, with identical transmission offerings to the f32. The new BMW "thing" is to offer the 8 speed auto as "standard" and the manual as a $0 option. It would be stupid to not offer the manual in the US market. They want to sell more cars, and the manual transmission on this platform with these engines is already in production. Furthermore, as of late it seems that if BMW gets wind of 5 or more people conspiring to like a car, they release a new model for them. The manual retains a great following in the US, so they will not leave those sales on the table IMO.

Lack of MT would absolutely be a deal breaker for me (not that BMW would shed a tear).

Probably, because the 'faster cars' are actually heavier than their 'slower' counterparts.
Sounds like BMarketingW to me.

I am assuming the transmission offerings for the US market will be similar to the 4 series coupe, correct? Thanks.

PS: I'm holding my breath until you provide us with an update. GULP.

BMW North America explicitly told us that the 8 speed sport automatic will be the only transmission offered. It remains to be seen whether they change their mind further down the road, but for now it's automatic only.
