F30 A Pillar Airbag
Can anyone tell me for certain if there is an airbag in the A Pillar of an F30 2018 3er?
I've conflicting threads and comments some say yes others no....I want to put a dashcam wire tucked into the top of the A Pillar but don't want to put this in front of a potential airbag....my A Pillar doesn't have an airbag symbol on it. |

I’m pretty sure the side curtain airbag extends a fair way down the A pillar.
I would advise against routing any wires across the top of the A pillar. Also avoid routing across the top of the doors generally. It’s a lot of work to do it properly so as not to interfere with airbag deployment. It’s obviously quick and easy to tuck a wire behind the rubbers, but who knows what will happen in an accident. I ran mine down the A pillar and then along under the doors. |

is the A Pillar easy to remove? it seems a bit flimsy as it a fabric based cover not solid plastic. |

I don't remember it being particularly difficult to remove. I think you pull out the top to release the top metal clip, and then slide upwards to lift it off the remaining two plastic clips.

Easy to take off. Bit of a git to get back on!
I ended up having to get new clips. They are metal and bend easily if not lined up correctly. your better off tucking the cable behind whilst they are still attached. Just pull the door seal trim off. |

With the door seal off (just pulls off) there is room to put a wire in there without impinging on the airbag area. |

Now all sorted and actually quite easy to do...plus the tail of the curtain airbag does come part of the way down the A Pillar so certainly worth removing the trim to make for certain you are not impeding the airbag
As others have said pull from the top into the front centre of the car, then lift it out. What I did to refit it was I removed the white fastener which makes it really easy to fit back |
