On the other hand, if any were bought new then, well all I can say is that I bought a brand new '54 reg Renault 5 GT Turbo and after 11 months I chopped it in for a facelifted '55 reg 5 GT Turbo... and I got reamed!

haha, what a ridiculous comment.

How could you possibly pass judgement on the condition of multiple vehicles based solely on the length of time of ownership?

Here's some pics of the last M5 I owned, 2 previous owners, F BMW SH, M Individual Audio, double glazing, heritage leather, rear blind, 82,000 miles and a folder full of receipts for all the big maintenance. Still in touch with the new owner and he's loving it.

Sound like a dog that i was desperate to get rid of???

You have no idea about another persons personal circumstances and the choices they make.
That's a lovely m5 :-) one car I always wished I bought. I nearly bought one when I got my 540i but I really wanted a auto and the 540 was mint so I couldn't resist. Yes definitely right about not being old dogs due to short ownership. All of my cars have been very nice cars as I'm very fussy :-)

If he's only kept them a few months each time, doubt that depreciation has had any notable effect.
You are right Russ my depreciation has not been no where near as bad as many as I've bought many for the right price and sold without losing too much. Plus servicing etc hasn't cost an awful lot either.
So it could be seen as a good way of motoring lol

I'm not going match DanDan but I'm not doing too badly... perhaps need more variety though...

4 have been company cars and the others my own. May move up to a 5 for the DD next time round and given my driving style and love of track days and BMWs it does seem crazy that I've still never owned an M car.

These pics have me hankerin after a mint E30 325i again, and maybe be nice to have a E39 M5 for a bit too.

You definitely like a 3 series ;-)
Depending what the new 5 series looks like and that it doesn't grow anymore in size I might be tempted to change the six for one in 2017. Will have to be bloody good to get me out of the six tho.

I like speed and handling but I also like my practicality, so always hard to see past a 3 as an all rounder!

Each to their own as we all have different tastes etc
I've had lots of 3's and they are great all rounders indeed but I just wished they would stop growing lol

Here is my list. I have also added the estimated cost today using average inflation for comparison, makes for very interesting comparison...

1989 E30 320i ... my Dad bought this home from his company car pool and it got me hooked. It had 90K miles and the company was selling it for £4k in 1991 (now: £8k)...I couldn't afford the insurance back then but always regretted it.

1998 E36 318is Coupe Then: £21.5k, Now: £35k
2001 E46 325ci Sport Coupe Then: £27k, Now: £40.5k
2002 E46 318i SE Coupe Then: £22k, Now: £32.5K
2004 E46 330i Auto Sport Touring Then: £28k, Now: £39.5k
2007 E91 318i MSport Touring Then: £22.8k, Now: £29.5K
2016 F31 340i MSport Touring Now: £30.5K
