Seems that if you only have standard rear only reversing sensors, you do not have a button to turn off the sensors. I've only had my car 2 days and twice this has been an issue when stopping to pick people up. I've had to press the stop button, even though on both occasions I was only stopping for a short period. Next time this happens I'm going to see if it is better to move into first and drive forward less than a turn of the wheel. this is the only way I can see of overcoming this without having to press the stop button when you do not have the button to stop the sensors.

Can't you just take the car out of reverse?

Sorry to resurrect this missing button topic again..

I was sat outside a shop at the weekend waiting for the missus. I was at the side of the road and had reversed into the parking parking space.

No beeping as there were no cars behind me. I sat there with the engine running, car sitting in neutral, minding my owning business listening to music.

Suddenly a car pulled up behind me, I nearly jumped out of my skin as the PDCs sprang into life and started beeping at me... The guy behind parked up and walked past me none the wiser - I had to kill the engine to stop the frantic beeping!!!

I can not understand why they do not only become active when you are in reverse, that's the way they used to work in my E91... Seems like a step backwards, albeit a very careful PDC guided step backwards..

I am guessing they stay active as a parking aide. When used with the front ones they allow you to centre your car in the space. See the vid in the configurator

Have you asked your dealer whether they can be coded to reverse only?

This is a pain in the hole!
Was waiting on my wife outside shops this eve and had to switch car off then on again
Hate this, why is there a need to remain powered up when in neutral, no previous BM's did this

This is a problem on all the BMW's now.

So all BMW's (i think) come with rear parking sensors and there is no button on the console to turn them off. IF you have an auto and put it in "park" it turns them off.

If you have front parking sensors/ reversing camera then you get the button to turn the all off. Again in an auto pressing the "park" button turns them off.

Its a massive overview by BMW in my opinion, I can only guess that with a manual in neutral you can roll so they leave them on.

Not that above helps you guys but hopefully clarifies the situation.

Is it really the hardest thing to turn car off? Same effort as pressing a button to turn off signal

I think that's the point being made. You can't turn them off if you only have rear sensors. You've never been able to in any BMW unless fronts are fitted. You then get the button to turn the fronts on when driving into a space.

As said though, if you select park they will turn off, or if it's a manual just take it out of reverse.

EDIT - Just realised this is a two year old thread?!

The issue is some people don't have said button jusdorange...

And ukbeemerboy, taking it out of reverse and into neutral doesn't turn them off according to people above...

And also; holy thread resurrection batman!!

Just thought; Not sure if tried but if you only have tears so no button. If you whack it in first does it kill them? Or start a timer for them to switch off... Or is it only when you hit XX MPH ?

Not neutral, Park. I know it turns them off in our 2012 320d which only has rear sensors.

I had a late 2013 build

When I placed it into D or P it moved out

Maybe others have a manual, but as I said if you're waiting for someone, why wouldn't you just turn engine off?

Yea, the car is a manual
If you put the car into first, you have to move forward enough so the object is no longer detected, but by this stage I now have the front of my car in a lane of traffic.
Can I not just switch the car off?? well as it was freezing temperatures outside, and god knows how long i was gonna have to wait on my wife, I wanted to sit in the car with the heat on and enjoy my Karmon Hardon.
So, the only fix is to switch the car off, and then immediately restart it again?
Balls to that BMW, just install a relay from the reverse switch, or easier still, get some of the software boffins to make it turn off when neutral is selected - there is no need for it to remain live!

Yea I know its a bloody old thread

What he said.

So options of your cars and how you deal with it;

1- reverse parking sensors only... after reversing, you put the gear in neutral and it still shows the rear parking pcd screen.
You cannot get out of it, unless you press the navigation from the controller and it takes you to navigation. Or press the menu. Works fine on e9x and should work on f3x too.

2- reverse parking with camera... you get the physical button to turn on/ off the camera and pcd screen follows.

3- front and reverse parking sensor... you have the button to turn on the parking sensors when you are approaching something ahead of you. Or you can use the same button to turn off the pcd screen.

HTH.
