It will affect something, not necessarily negative depending on the car owner's subjective focus or need. I'd rather put it like this: If you modify your car to get more of something, you typically also get less of something else.

Higher performance, less reliability. Better handling, poorer comfort.

As long as one is aware of these facts, it's not really a "risk" because it's a known consequence.
