X3 - 2.0d

Younger brother has been agonising over his new company car, on his budget he can get the X3 2.0d M Sport with the M Sport Plus Package, it’ll be white as he won’t pay extra for paint ! He has very little additional scope for extras but is there anything else you guys think should be added ?

For me definitely the digi cockpit at £290 and most would say folding mirrors for £300.

Other than that it's pretty well specced as standard.

Yes the icon adaptive headlights, without the hexagonal DRL's the front end is left lacking. Visibility pack is only £495

I think he’ll spring for all of those so will pass on the collective wisdom - thanks to all.

He looked at the Outlander Phev but with a 80 mile commute it doesn’t make sense as he’d be using the 2.4 petrol engine most of the time on the motorway, it’s also not a good tow vehicle (horse box).

He likes cars as much as I do but taking the cash isn’t an option as he’d loose a chunk to the ex wife.

Good plan, get the car with a high BIK and give her less...

XC60 T8 for me in those circumstances...

He should definitely be looking for 30/35D is he's planning on towing a horse box. The X3 is a big lump of a car for the 4pot without the added weight of the box and it's occupants.

I think the towing limit is the same isn't? Limited by the tow hook I think.

Your down 400KG on a braked trailer with a 20D iirc and the extra torque from the 6pot would be a big help pulling a laden box from a muddy field and less of a power strain.

My brother in law has the older X3 (F25) with the 2.0d (B48) engine and whilst it goes relatively well for it's size, as soon as you have more than two people or a boot full of stuff it does run out of puff fairly quick and putting your foot down it's more noise than go..

If towing is involved then I'd be looking at a 6 pot

The 6 pot is out of reach on his scheme, should he be looking elsewhere, if so, where - Merc, Volvo ?

What is the budget? Is it based on the list price?

Can he squeeze a T8 hybrid XC60 in budget? Even if not the hybrid, I'd be going for the Volvo over the X3 I think (caveat, not driven the Volvo). As long as it tows what he needs of course.

Aren't they about 55k? Not exactly X3 20d pricing, if he can stretch to that might as well get a Bentayga

I think that’s what he’d really like - loves mine but at £58k (before discount) he can’t afford it . If it wasn’t for the horse (not his) the X3 wouldn’t feature !
