Exclamation Dinan Springs X-Drive: Major Install issues...

Recently purchased the Dinan X-drive springs for my 2014 335.. After installation I noticed a horrible grinding noise when turning the wheel left and right.

Took it back to the shop and the front springs had become unseated from the mount and ripped into the rubber gourmet. Dinan originally thought the shop installed upside-down but the shop documented with pictures their correct install. Dinan then overnighted a replacement set of front springs but my shop said they look identical to the first set. At this point they are hesitant to install the 2nd pair and have them tear through the rubber garment again.

Has anybody else had issues with their X-Drive springs? My shop (Imola Motorsports) and the Dinan techs are at a complete loss for what's going on. Many pictures have been send back and forth to each other to make sure the install procedure is correct but everyone is still stumped as to what the issue is.

Car has been in shop for 3 weeks.... starting to lose it! Anybody else having issues or any ideas as to what is going on?

I will update with pics tomorrow.

No issues at all installing the Dinan xdrive springs. You just have to make sure they sit properly and reuse the original rubber seal underneath the top mount

Here aer the pictures before they are about to be installed.

Here are pictures of the springs after 5 miles of driving. The noise is starting to return, it will fully return and likely unseat once it wears through the plastic boot.

Is there a bump stop missing?
I'd just put the stockers back on, make Dinan pay for the reinstall, and call it a day....

They messed up other stuff on early releases before so doesn't surprise me.

Confirmed with Imola that the bump stops are not missing. They commented that the bump stops would not change the issue at present.

Gosh I sure would hope so as these pictures have been very public to Dinan through-out the troubleshooting process.

Can any fellow X-drive members double check their springs? It would be greatly appreciated.

HS!! I don't claim to be an expert on spring design, but those springs don't look like they fit right at all. Notice how they are bowed and not centered virtically. They almost look like they are rear springs the way they are so fat and minimal coils. Typical fronts will be a narrow cylinder design with many coils while the backs are shorter, fat and less coils.

Definitely not a bump stop issue because bump stops do nothing, but keep the shock from bottoming out, not keeping the spring seated.

I think I would agree with Shiva, send them back and just get H&R. My buddy has DHP on his 4 series M sport and got the H&R springs and says they ride as good as you could imagine or hope for.

Overkill, Imola is one of the best of the best. If they cannot do it, no one can. They have an ex-Ferrari F1 team mechanic on staff and the only independent authorized repair shop for warranty and service for Ferrari and Lambo in the midwest other than Chicago. They are more than capable to do a spring swap.

I can check my car in the morning, but...

I don't have the grinding noises but here are my shocks. Just installed last week.

I do notice that our rubber is a bit different design, and that my rubber isn't sealing when at full droop. I will contact my shop in the morning and keep an ear out for noises.

Also seems like your spring is rotated a lot more than mine

You Have To Be Careful Since Front Springs Are Directional...Smaller Pigtail End Should Point Down Towards The Strut...Bigger End Points Upward

Same problem, just dropped the car off at BMW, they installed the springs. Initial diagnosis, just popping the hood was the right front spring. I'll keep you apprised as I get more info.

Disappointing, love the combo of Shockware & springs, really wakes up the car, turns it into a proper BMW.

I am wondering if the factory packed them wrong or something. Happened to KW with their coil overs in the beginning to several people.

Looks like to me they are upside down, just because the dinan label is upright doesn't mean they labeled the spring correctly

Parts dept rep @ my BMW dealer just called me to verify Diann shipped the right parts, D190-3031. It is correct on the box and my shipping invoice; he said the spring was very soft, doesn't look right. The plot thickens, I'll keep you apprised.

I don't blame you. This is a bunch of unnecessary and unexpected BS. I will say I was very pleased with the Shockware, which was installed prior to the springs. I highly recommend it.

Good luck.

Just spoke with my Service Adviser, they are going back and forth with Dinan. May I ask you, who paid to re-install your original springs? You Dinan, or the shop? Thanks, I appreciate your help.

I'm really interested in hearing the conclusion to all of this. I was ready to purchase the Dinan springs for my 318i x-drive, but now I'm going to wait. Has anyone heard of similar issues with the 328xi springs?
