For background checks use this site as it also checks if the car has been through salvage auctions and never declared as a write off.

There are many HPI clear vehicles that have been written off and never added to the register...

I never knew you could get that info. I had a car stolen. It was recovered after my pay out so went to auction, it had 4K put on it by the thieves(which I expect were hard). It went to auction and then was sold privately with no category mentioned or that it was stolen recovered.

I also suggest taking it to a mechanic or a bmw service shop to check everything before you buy it (if you're not mechanical yourself)
