Calling all VRSF Catted Down Pipe Owners

Did anyone get a CEL after the install? If you did, did you fix it?

Yes and yes (with a tune). I also blew out the cats (on stock burbles at that) because they weren't welded on strong enough (you get what you pay for). So now I'm catless.

Lol are you serious? You blew out the cats? Did that ruin the DP and you had to buy another DP?

Lol yeah it ruined it by having it dislodged diagonally so it wasn't flowing straight.. so I just gutted it

Can a emissions shop see that the CEL was disabled?

I'm catless and have intake, stage 2+ tune, trans tune, . I did my tune with mission performance and got an inspection afterward and they couldn't tell the cel was removed at all. A great day cause now the modding continues and I don't have to backtrack how to pass.

They can't technically see that the code was disabled, but if they're scanning the readiness monitors (which the shops here in CO do), then the vehicle will fail emissions regardless of whether the CEL is actively displayed. It disables the CEL, but it can't fix the readiness monitor status, which is why it's becoming commonplace to scan these during an emissions check.

Interesting, so if I get a CEL and use an o2 spacer to remove it that would be a better way of passing. The thing is I don't want an o2 spacer in at all but I could add the o2 spacer just before I get emissions done and then remove it after.

You have to drive the car a bit under certain conditions to get the readiness monitor set to ready/okay. So just putting the o2 spacer in right before you head to your emissions shop won't cut it. Probably a few days of normal driving should do the trick.

OR, just pony up for a nice, catted DP that won't throw a CEL. For me, all of this hassle with emissions wasn't worth just paying an extra $300 or so upfront initially.

Ugh you're right. What DP do you have that isn't throwing a CEL?

Didn’t have a CEL for about 2,000 miles
Last week it popped up for O2 sensor... I think something must of shaken and picked it up

Bought a OBDII reader and erased the code. Haven’t seen it since... it would of popped up if it sensed it again
What kind of spacer? 90 deg or a regular inline spacer? You have a catted VRSF?

I have this one: https://x-ph.com/cg-precision-ds-1-h...npipe-bmw-b58/

The next cheapest one is one from AA: https://store.activeautowerke.com/pr...atted-downpipe

Wagner and another company I believe make HJS cat downpipes, but those are in the $1,300+ range.

The active Autowerke DP looks nice although I noticed on the specs its rated for 500 to 800 HP which makes me question its viability in a 380-390 HP bimmer.

It's rated to handle up to 800hp, meaning it flows extremely well for the size. Realistically most of our miles have been tested on a 400hp 340i and we've seen excellent results on even bone stock cars.

Perfect! I'm planning to purchase one of these for all of my off road activities in my 340i

I didn't do anything except have MHD suppress the cel and I flashed a different tune about 50 miles before inspection. I had the 2 not ready and several not available. We are allowed 2 not ready and I passed without any issues.

"Flashed a different tune." Careful, you're treading into highly illegal waters.

Sounds more like you are making an assumption that that "different tune" is manipulating readiness.
