BMW finance - overage in agreed mileage - cost?
I'm nearing my term and wanted to check if anyone knew what BMW charge for going over your mileage limit which you agreed with BMW at the start of your finance agreement?
I believe mine has gone over by 5k.. so a little worried. Thanks |

By way of example, this is the excess they were going to charge when I chopped in my 328i, although your contract may vary.

The worry only comes depending on what you're planning on doing with the car (assuming you mean PCP and not PCH)
If you're buying it at the end of the term - don't worry about excess miles If you're PX'ing it for something else - don't worry about excess miles If you're VT'ing or handing back - there will be an excess miles charge to pay, typically 7-8p per mile. There are various opinions out there that this charge can be challenged but that's your decision to take. |

If you're VT'ing before the end of the term there might be case for disputing an excess mileage charge but I wouldn't have thought you've grounds for doing that if you're simply handing the car back at the end of the term? As I understand it disputing an excess mileage charge is specific to the VT process....

People around where i work don't worry about excess mileage on their rented cars. They just fit a mileage blocker on the car not long after taking delivery. You would be surprised what i see and hear.
There are some unscrupulous people around. |

My local BMW dealer found one of those whilst doing some work on a car, they refused to work on it and told the owner to collect it, my feeling is there are loads of clocked/blocked 2-3 year old cars out there in the market.

Yeah, it's quite scary and sadly with lease cars and limited mileage they are very common.
A quick search on eBay etc will show loads of these mileage blockers. There have been a few people on here that have been caught out buying used / pre-owned cars with them fitted. One of the guys is on the M5 forum, I believe he managed to return his car after a lot of hassle. |
