I've always felt that complimentary checkups are a way for them to find things you need fixed on your car. Easy way to get customers in and then find a leak or a faulty such and such and try to sell you on service.
If anything, I'd get the complimentary check, have them find anything that's wrong, and decide for myself whether I want to do it myself or take it to an indy.

Dealerships don't send such flyers due to a sense of charity or altruism. It is to find something to fix and charge you (or BMW, if still under warranty).

My dealer wants to do the necessary/scheduled work under warranty - they still get paid, but from BMW.

Yup got one too. Might as well take it in..warranty runs out in about 5mos. My only gripe is the stereo...i get more static and have since new. I've always attributed it to the HD part and that we have hills/mountains..but I get static even in the flatlands sometimes. I'm just leery of them ripping the stereo out of my dash and causing creaks that I don't have currently............

I got the exact same email, same through January 31, 2019 date as well.
I got my car thru Carmax and already have the Maxcare warranty, so i won't be buying any extended warranties from them. If they can find something to fix and bill BMW for it, so be it; but i don't plan to pay anything out of pocket. |

Yea, that's kind of what I figured when I made the post, it's an easy way to lure people in and then find stuff to "fix" on the car and generate revenue. It's a numbers game in my view. If 100 cars come in and inspections take 1 hour (that's likely high) then that is 100 hours of labor at COST, but then if you get work for even 25 cars at probably 2-4 hours of labor at FULL MARGIN plus margin on parts, you can make some decent profit. Plus, I bet they find something to address for almost every car, and most owners don't know enough about cars to say whether or not it should be fixed, so the dealerships probably do pretty good for themselves.
I can't fault them for it, smart marketing and way to keep a strong relationship with the customer. I'd do the exact same thing if I owned a dealership. Ironically, after I posted this, my wife and I both got $25 service coupons to BMW and Lexus, so there is another enticing way to get people into the shop. |

They have to pay the techs regardless if they have a car to work on or not. Seems like its in their best interest to find something to fix and bill BMW rather have the tech laying around twirling their thumbs.
