My DP is 4" btw so I think that's why its so close.
wow good to know. So the whole exhaust run for the B58 is 0.5" wider than an N55 or just the dp?

Catless dp presents an isue for me being in CA

Do you have a video of your exhaust? would love to hear it. thanks!

1)It does not have a resonator
2) where the valve are opend it acts like a Mufler delete (90%)

Have your resonator delete and have a cutout in your exhaust system or buy an exhaust system that let you have a semi mufler delete like afe exhaust

PWG N55s have a smaller downpipe, but EWGs have the same size as the B58.

Ah so my 2015 335i would have an EWG, which is the same size as the B58. So an exhaust setup that can emulate the MPPSK's straight-pipe-when-valved-opened system should can me the desired effect.

So is it as easy/straightforward as getting a 4.5" catted downpipe bolted on?

This guy is correct. B58 is the biggest which I personally think gives it that nice tone. It's sexy my EWG is close enough so I'm happy

I'd be interested to see if anyone on a blind test can tell the difference between EWG and PWG exhaust notes on the same upgraded exhaust system... I highly doubt it.

I have PWG w/catless downpipe and MPE. it's got a great growl to it but what I like the most is that it's not intrusive in the cabin at all. With burbles disabled it would be tough for a passenger to tell I have an aftermarket exhaust - until I roll down the windows.

MPE w/catless downpipe is what I'd do

To me it seems like the 4.0" changes it's tone around 4k. It kinda sounds high pitch to me. But yeah it's so hard to compare exhaust differences like that... the chances of two people living close to eachother with the same setup except DP is hard.

Even though the DP inlets are different sizes, the outlets are the same, the midpipe diameter is the same, and so on. The dp size is irrelevant for these turbos as long as you aren't choking it with a tiny dp.

So you don't attribute the exhaust tone difference to the DP sizing?

Here's mine on a cold start. Can someone post a 340 cold start so we can start comparing?

I think it's all in the OEM burble tune with the MPPK equipped 335/435 and the MPE for those cars. The M235 (comes with the MPPK as stock) and with the MPE installed is far more burbly, poppy, and aggressive sounding than a 335/435 with the same exact setup. I can't a difference in sound between a M235 and M240 with the MPE. I have a hard time believing the sound difference is because of the turbo outlet size or the different engine design which the only main difference being a closed deck block vs open.

The dp size is not irrelevant... 340/335 exhaust piping have the same path. The only difference in the system is the downpipe. Especially if we’re talking about MPPSK which becomes a straight pipe with the valve open.

Sure muffler different. But not different enough to create the huge difference in tone.

You compare a straight pipe 335 and a straight pipe 340 and there will be a difference. Difference being: the DP.

Yeah not true. The muffler and exhaust path change the tone far more than the dp size. Moreover, the difference in dp inlet size is a mere .5". The tone people discern is definitely the muffler BECAUSE it essentially acts as a muffler delete. Both these engines sound amazing with a muffler delete.

I posted a photo of the lci MPPSK muffler on the previous page. It's also plausible that some of the exhaust gas still passes through the muffler in sport, and the muffler chamber would still add notes to what we hear.

We can just agree to disagree man, its all good

I believe the tone is due to the downpipe because when I went catless I could hear I was close to the b58 tone. (compared to older 335 catless videos I've heard)

It's like comparing a m235i(EWG) with MPE vs older 335(PWG) with MPE. It doesnt have the tone nor crackles as the m235i. Which can only be attributed to the downpipe.

You think my 2015 335i with the EWG would be closer to that better tone if setup in a similar manner?

The crackles are simply a factor of the tuning. The crackles/burbles are tiny amounts of unburned fuel being injected into the motor and burning on exit through the exhaust. The crackles become louder when you open up the exhaust. The MPPK tuning on the later BMW cars is quite a bit more aggressive.

To add to this, I found this post on "pops and crackles" that manufacturers are doing nowadays over at the Focus RS forum:

https://www.focusrs.org/forum/9-focu...ml#post1510881

Very interesting read.
