I have a 2014 428 XDrive with 22,000 Miles and am surprised at my low 20’s MPG. My morning commute in 10 to 30 degree weather is about 20 Miles, mostly highway with no traffic when in city. I have tried driving at 60 mph in eco slow mode with not much change. My 2013 Subaru was getting about 28.5 mpg in winter

For crying out loud people, modes only affect mileage with respect to ACCELERATION! In particular, suggestions for switching to "Eco Pro" for highway usage does absolutely NOTHING! In 6th, at a constant rate of speed, it doesn't matter if you're in Eco, Sport, or Ludicrous mode, same fuel consumption in the same gear at a constant rate of speed. Modes will have a MUCH more pronounced affect in city traffic, where acceleration and change of speed is constant.

I tried eco mode twice .. that was enough.

With a proper 6th gear it'd be towards 27 .. not 22

So are you complaining about people discussing the pros/cons of eco pro mode in an MPG thread??

I'm sure many, it not all, people understand that eco pro isn't some magical button that shuts down cylinders and etc. it's being talked about as an aid to achieve max MPG

Not true. EcoPro mode slows down the cars response so it accelerates more slowly as you encounter hills, turns, etc. which uses less fuel, as well as enables the neutral cruise feature if you use cruise control. You won't get there in the same amount of time, but it will use less fuel. You can feel the difference even if you are trying to maintain a speed with your own right foot.

Where's this magical world of constants that you live in? Roads and highways have hills and traffic, all of which require some level of acceleration and deceleration. Even on a hill, when you think you are at a constant speed, the engine is not at a constant load and this is where eco pro helps. The throttle mapping and fuel maps are far less aggressive than comfort or sport, and they help you save fuel while you're accelerating up a hill or recovering speed from a slower driver, etc.

Yes, I completely understand. My first line stated it only impacts acceleration. I'm just pointing out that highway use is the LEAST likely scenario where EcoPro has any affect.

I average 25.9 MPG in my car, and I am by no means a granny when it comes to acceleration or speed, that's with a JB+ installed as well. Eco Pro does lower my consumption, but the only scenario where I activate it is when I'll be cruising on the highway for an extended period of time. Comfort mode gives me smooth enough modulation when aiming for economy that I don't bother most of the time. My driving is 50% state roads, 30% backroads, and 20% highway.

Tires also have a pronounced impact on economy. When I switched to PS4S my average went up around 1.5 mpg. I'm on WS80 winters now, looking to see how they impact my average.

I was out in LA in November with my buddy and we got a Corvette and WRX to hit the canyons with. Amazingly, we averaged the same 10.x mpg in each car, it was almost like we were doing the limbo but we couldn't declare a winner. With the crazy amount of traffic I saw, I'm amazed you're not getting less than 19!

I'm getting 27 easy in my 335 6MT without using ecomode or even trying. I have bootmod3 and a JB4 (but only for monitoring). Only other mods are a charge pipe.

I average 28.3. Most of my driving is interstate.

That's using a mix of comfort and sport mode. I never use Eco Pro as it is downright dangerous to use on a busy interstate.

NYC and Long Island driving 14.5 mpg according to infotainment system. This baby burns gas like my 2k8 Volvo S80 T6 and a lot more gas than my 2k11 Volvo S60 T6 .

Well, one good benefit to eco mode is better traction in snow because you don’t accelerate from stop as fast which prevents or limits wheel spin.
Pet peeve from person who lives in the snowiest region of the USA. (Erie/Edinboro PA) I hate watching people spin tires at a high rate of speed when stuck. They just get stuck worse.

I dont know how you guys can manage to get 27mpg

Out of 3 years of ownership in the 2013 F30 335 6mt, i averaged 21mpg... that includes 80%HWY with 5 trips to Vegas every year.

Now i am getting better MPG in the 2015 F36 435 8AT, a whopping 1 mpg increase, overall i am at 22.2mpg with the same driving habits and same roads.... i am at 30k miles. and i dont have Runflats.

and Fuck Eco Pro.. that thing is dangerous. I feel i could accelerate faster with my feet.

The 8AT @80mph cruising RPM is at 2k and 6mt was at 2.5k.. i think that is where the 1 mpg increase came from

really that high? i thought it was 2500.. or maybe 8AT is 2500 and 6mt is close to 3000.

Either way the 500 rpm does make a difference.. in my case 1 mpg

i was averaging 21.9-22.2 mpg for the 1 year that i lived within the city
short commute (about 3 miles one way) through city traffic

now that i have a 10-11 mile one-way commute with highway driving, i'm averaging 24.9-25.1 mpg

i can't stand eco pro and i drive in sport mode 99% of the time
but i adjusted my Sport setting to only affect chassis and not acceleration/throttle response
so it's really "comfort mode" + stiffer suspension and handling
i have Adaptive suspension + dinan shockware

That is exactly what I wish I could do with my 12'. The throttle is too twitchy for me to drive it with the sport throttle settings during my commute, the progression of the throttle between 0-5% makes keeping a steady speed tedious. I don't have adjustable dampers, but I would like to have the steering in sport all the time, if I could. If only there were a way to code that in
