Pic below... This afternoon I changed the oil, and in the process, I pulled the belly pan and took a closer look at things... The front of the belly pan (under the oil filter housing) was clean, as were all the belts. As mentioned and as you can see, there's a fair amount of dirt build-up (172K miles' worth) but it's all dry. As was suggested, I cleaned it up best I could with brake cleaner and I'll continue to monitor it.
Since we're chatting, with the pan removed, I did notice a small amount of leaking oil from a thing a few inches in front of the oil drain plug (second pic, far left). I couldn't tell the origin of the leak... Is this something that likely needs attention? Thanks! Here's the other pic that shows the leak in front of the oil drain plug... |

Yup! Classic example of the OFH rear gasket leaking. Change both. Done a couple and not hard. I also changed out all the bolts and thermostat housing plugs.
