Hi all, one of my occasional posts

Oil service light is on, 3,500 miles since the last one but 2 years. BMW quote £260 for oil, micro filter etc.

Question….. should I have it done?

67 335D no issues with oil, level at max and regular short trips.

Thank you

Update - Full oil service, filter £82.00 all in. Mobil 1 ESP. Shout out to ATS Cwmbran 😀

If you've hit the time based element of the service countdown, I would.

Have you tried getting an online quote?

Try an online quote from BMW.

Irrespective of Mileage, change the oil. Oil degrades regardless of use or age.

You can go to either BMW or a BMW registered Indie, not two weeks ago there was a post similar and it turned into an argument about where was better.

Which ever you choose do your research and pick a good one based off it.

If you are not bothered about service history buy the parts and do it yourself it's a doddle. I drop the oil midway through intervals. Maybe OTT but rather preventative than curative.

Garage List
I always figure if you're planning on keeping the car, do interim oil changes. Up to now I've been getting the local dealer to do it (as 340i filters have been known to disintegrate on removal) but now looking at a local indie instead as the car is 6yrs old.

Definitely get it done. Last few years they've done a Black Friday deal around mid Nov so may be back down to £90 for an Oil change

I just take my 330d to national tyres in between my bmw services and it's £80 to have the oil and filter done and you can specify your oil too for an extra cost, quite handy in the winter so your not doing it yourself in the cold 🤣

Would you guys recommend using a K&N oil filter, or sticking with OEM ?
I ask as i used to use K&N over the oem Nissan one for my R34 , so now i got a 335d, when it comes to service time soon, my plan was to buy K&N air filter, oil filter, and then i will go with Motul for the oil...

Am assuming i should get better MPG with my remapped 335d!
So OEM air filter too rather than K&N ?

Looked mint, always had a sweet spot for these r34’s

335d is a great platform, a remap and an alpina gearbox flash and it’s a whole new beast.

Are you doing the services yourself? If so autodoc is the best place to get parts, although takes two weeks or so to arrive from Germany.

Yeah would stick with oem, aftermarket ones can cause headache down the line

cheers for the info dude!
and not doing service myself, but if it was a case of buying aftermarket service parts, and asking the garage to service using those parts....
I'll look at using either BMW or a specialist who uses OEM parts
Autodoc = very good, used several times with the R34 .....

335d goes in this Sat for stage 1 ECU remap + Dyno + Gearbox map (cost £600), am using Avon Tuning nr Bristol...

Stage 2 on the gearbox, i like my MPG for motorway miles
