Add in the glut of diesel PCP returns expected over the next couple of years, and it's anyone's guess where prices will be. The trade says used diesel sales are still quite buoyant, but do expect a drop in values as the market gets flooded. They say it depends on new car sales, (the current uncertainty) as to where the used values will end up, even without the negative aspects of diesel ownership.

Never have been that successful for mpg, even without a cold spell.

Will be the same for the latest plug-in hybrids, if not charged and preheated like Tengo is doing with his 330e.

Also cold weather is a good test for the usefulness of the 'full fat' EV, see the range drop off a cliff.

But it wont free fall - it will self correct, unless people are prepared to pay a premium for non diesels ?. Surely people buying returned PCP cars at 3-4 years old are looking for value for money ?

I read that one big concern in the industry is many car users won't be able to afford to renew their PCP deals. Costs have gone up (industry financial statements, not mine) and it could cause a swing to used cars. That could hold up used values.

Humans are more harmful to the planet than no humans.

Get rid of cows and you need fields full of grains, vegetables and monoculture that are destroying the entire food chain.

Get rid of diesel cars and that fraction of fuel from oil goes where?
Burnt in less clean ways elsewhere?

It's ALL just reasons to tax you more, and it'll be done on a broad spectrum.

Anyone who thinks they'll be quids in/out because of the car they drive being diesel or petrol, like for like, is just fooling themselves.

I think that will be true for many who may have gone through multiple PCPs’ .
I think more people will actually take the deal to the end of the PCP too.
