That's what I'd be worried about as well. I'm not a mechanic, but its probably safe to say that scored cylinders won't fix themselves and will present a longivity issue down the road. Who eats the repair cost 13 months from now? Probably not BMW.... I'd almost demand a warranty extension.

My Indy mechanic checked and the A/F ratio was running too rich and the car tried to balanced it but ended up dying instead. Will bring it back to the dealership. goodthing warranty is still up might get a huge replacement this time since its my 3rd time and I contacted BMW CA and they gonna look at it

Thanks for updating this thread. I am very interested in the best possible outcome for you.
Leak down tests are encouraging. The larger question is whether current extent of scoring will degrade over time. The request for more pictures is prudent. |

Yeah since the foreman tested the car and he saw the problem first hand and directly told me he is going to put a new PUMA case as he already had it before but was closed by BMW. He even told me this is the first time for a b58 to have this problem

Well - BMW made aircraft engines in the past. The more well known BMW engine was used in FW-190 during WW II.
I hope the same precision engineering approach will yield a new engine for you. Not from FW 190 of course. :-) |

Thanks for the update. Calling BMW CA is still valuable. Polite but firm pressure sometimes helps.

I guess the real question is "what does every other engine look like at that mileage". Heck, my 340 with 33333 km today might look the same, but I've never had the need to get it checked. Unless an issue pops up, one would never scope the cylinders.
Cold starts are the worst and you do get some scoring regardless. Years ago my buddy had issues with his Chevy engine (80's motor). When he pulled it apart, you could see the side that the block heater was on (perfect). The other side looked like it went through h*ll. |
