2014 vs 2015 435i M Sport Differences

Hello everyone,

New to the forum, been an Audi owner for the most part, but am looking to purchase a 435i xDrive M Sport. There are many 435's (and 428's) coming back from leases, and turning up at the dealers and on the lots. We fell in love with a 435i xDrive, mineral gray on coral red, gorgeous color combo.

Thing is, there is a 2014 (with low KM's) at one dealer, and a 2015 at a dealer next door, both exactly the same color combo. Both are M Sport, one has Premium, other has Premium / Executive. One has the M Pack options for brakes and exhaust, the other one does not.

So besides the small differences in trim and options, does anyone know, off the top of their head, what are the major differences between the 2014 and 2015, assuming all else the same (M Sport Premium).

Thanks
Neil

Some 2014 models have parts that were changed and that year falls in the middle of these potential changes. Early 2014 models have a mechanical waste gate, but after November, they were changed to electronic. The same type of change goes for TMPS sensors. I cant think of any other changes, but personally, I'd go with the 2015 even if it's not the one with the M-Sport brake package. If you do plan on having the M-Performance exhaust, just factor that in. I wouldn't buy an older car just because it has a couple parts that I could easily install on the new vehicle.

If either of them has the MPPK, I would go with that option, as it is expensive and well worth it.

re Wastegate - this change was only in the F30, not F32.

So on the 2014 F32, electronic waste gate ???

Officially the proud owner of a 2014 435i M Sport coupe (with the gorgeous coral red interior), happened all today in the middle of posting this. The reasoning was simple, hopefully you agree.

2014 had 35,000 KM's (21747 miles) on it, versus the 2015 which had around 74,000 KM (45981 miles).

The 2014 has the executive pkg on top of premium, the 2015 only premium.

The 2015 did have the M-Pack exhaust and brakes though.

This car will primarily be used by my wife, and occasionally by me on the weekends. She does about 10-15,000KM (6-9000 miles) per year, so by having the younger engine, we feel we can keep enjoying the car for longer.

So if the waste gate is not a difference, then TPMS is the only difference between 2014 and 2015 ??

Thanks

Also, anything we should look out for in terms of reliability on the 2014 F32 ?? Any known repairs or recalls we should prepare for ?? From what I have read, the F32 (even the F30) are pretty reliable machines, in terms of engine, body and tech.

The charge pipe is considered a big issue on the F30. Lots of people blow them at stock boost. I cannot speak for the 435. Assuming it's the same, you should replace it with a metal one. I think there's even a recent thread about someone blowing theirs!

Yes, EWG. Build date on the 435i here is April 2014. Check the driver's side door for build date. Have a feeling TPMS on the 435i you are looking at is also the 'better' type.

Check build date on the 2014.

Congratulations, it makes sense to me, hard to argue with the extra options and lower miles, the Red interior is quite nice!

One additional thing is the suspension was updated for the 2015 on the F30 (do not know about F32), It was a change with the front strut. The 2012-2014 had a 3 stud upper strut bushing to the frame connection, it was changed to a 5 stud set up (if I recall correctly). This was to correct the steering feel, this modification along with an electronic steering tweak was to correct some of the detachment many have complained about with the F3x model vs the previous E9x, the change from hydraulic steering (E9x) to electronic steering (F3x). I have not driven a newer 5 stud version 335i or 340i with sport suspension to compare to my 2014 335i therefore, I cannot provide any feedback of the change.

The 2015 may have the MPPK and MPE, but it can be added, I personally think it is worth the extra $$$ as it seems the engine was made to have it. These additions will provide for greater mid-range torque (much better rolling 40-70 MPH times) and the engine does not seem to peak out on power at 5,500 RPM, continues to pull to 7,000 (it has an intake modification) that takes away the feel that the engine is lacking for air at higher RPM. The MPE really provides a nice growl without being too loud.

IHKA3 v IHKA depending when built in 2014 cycle as well.

Not sure if the early 2014 had touch either.

So I think I know where this conversation will go, with respect to $$$$.

The 2015 we test drove had the MPE & MPB (Not sure the lingo for the brakes).
We did enjoy the garbles, farts, throaty sound.

The 2014 we just purchased (lower KM's) did not have either (it is an M Sport Exec).

Having said that, my understanding is that if you order the MPE from the factory at purchase, it is something like $750 (or whatever the cheap price is), but if you ask the dealer to add it on afterwards, it's like thousands. Is this assumption correct ??

I think I read people saying either it is not worth it (at the the dealer price), or just go aftermarket for something similar at a better price.

So my question, is there any way in hell of obtaining the MPE parts off of somewhere (eBay, etc), and just have someone install it locally ??

Also, is it just a matter of slapping on the MPE parts and done, or is there any programming needed on the ECU ??

Thanks guys, loving this forum already !!

Cheapest New MPE price for 435 is from eBay vendor (actually a BMW dealer) @ $999 shipped incl. a new valve & clamp. If you wait a bit, eBay regularly has coupon for 15-20% off anything which would get you a new MPE for $799

You will need to buy either the SS or CF tips on top of that. Those will run about $130 for SS/$415 for CF from forum vendor

Or you could prolly pick up a good used setup for around $600 (seems to be going price) for MPE + Tips from forum classifieds

It's a fairly simple DIY install (on ramps) if you are capable of following install directions & making (1) cut in exhaust pipe back near rear axle to remove existing muffler - factory pipe even has a 'dimple' in it to indicate where to cut as per instructions. If not, I would try a local BMW Indy or exhaust shop for install vs. $$$ dealer install

No coding needed

Congrats! I'd definitely recommend going for the MPE if you're looking for something slightly more aggressive sounding than stock but not overly loud.

I bought mine for $650 brand new from a forum member + ~$40 for clamps + ~$90 for used chrome mpe tips.

Install is easy and can be done with ramps and exhaust cutters or get any standard muffler shop to do it for $50-60.

You guys are so resourceful, thanks !!! I will definitely have to keep an eye out here for used or new MPE, or on eBay. Glad to see it is an easy install, just cut and clamp.

When the MPE option comes from factory, is it a straight bolt-on or do they also cut into the stock exhaust and install it the same way as an add-on ??

Either way, glad it is straight forward and no ECU programming necessary. I will definitely look into doing this.

As for the brakes (MPB??), I heard that the stock brakes are more than good enough with the stock HP, and only needed if you are an M3/M4, not the standard models.

Can't wait to pickup the M Sport 435 coupe !!
