If I understand correctly, the only way to do CarPlay is by replacing the display unit. And the only way to do that is to be sure you have HU_ENTRYNAV, which is in the CPU.

1) Am I correct in understanding that?
2) And is it possible to know if I have that without buying and OBD adaptor to use with the BimmerCode app?
3) The other option is the Wireless CarPlay adaptor that I saw from Unique. I don't think that would require any "surgery" which might be better.

Check if your main menu has tiles (like NBT Evo ID5 or ID6):

If yes, then you have the HU_ENTRYNAV2 head unit and you can get a larger 8.8" screen.

This thread isn't about CarPlay, search the forums for topics related to that. You'll need to get a 3rd party unit which would require a little "surgery".

HU_ENTRY is an old (pre-2014) head unit, don't confuse it with HU_ENTRYNAV (2014-2016) or HU_ENTRYNAV2 (2017+). Bluetooth or USB isn't important, but the main menu is:

First of all thank you for fast response. Sorry for misleading with HU_ENTRY, I only started to investigate whole the process, and still not familiar enough with all the lexicon. Regarding the main menu so
I've checked provided links and my menu looks the same as for NBT/NBT EVO ID 4.
So this means that I have HU_ENTRYNAV?! So again sorry for misleading, since my multimedia head unit is HU_ENTRYNAV and not HU_ENTRYNAV2, which 8.8 monitor I need to look for?

You can retrofit either one of these two screens, the only difference is the older (pre-LCI) one has a slightly blueish tint.

8.8 CID F3X made by ALPINE AL3011 should work, also known as the LCI screen that is BMW part# 9387453

10 months ago bought my 1st BMW ... Its an F36 B47 420D production 9/2016 LCi model.

I have the HiFi system, with 6.5 Screen. No GPS No Backup Camera.
I don't have an iPhone and probably I don't want to get 1

I would like to have :
1. mirroring with my Android phone
2. upgrade the Screen ( 8.8 or 10.25 even better )
3. get a backup Camera ( that works with the steering wheel and have good resolution at night ).

Is an OEM retrofit 8.1 Android 2GB ram 32GB HD valid option for me? like this
Android 10.25 2gb 32g Rockchip RX3399

What are your suggestions ...

Edit ... I have noticed that the BT in the current system has a small synchronization delay (about 0.75sec) when I choose to play a video clip from my phone.
I mean, looking in phone screen and listen from Car speakers ... will this be always the case?
Do I have to upgrade the BT?

1. Have a look at BimmerTech SmartView HD Flex

2. Both of these screens should work for you. If you'd like a 10.25" screen, you'll need to either cut the screen or dash to make it fit.

3. BimmerTech (see point no. 1) offers backup cameras (both OEM and 3rd party).

4. Android units are either good or bad, search these forums for reviews (there are many kinds).

Bluetooth will always have a slight lag, if you want to avoid it, connect the phone to the AUX input via cable.

Hi so I just bought my first bmw f22 2016 with business navigation (evo) (iD4) and i want to upgrade to a 8.8 evo nav (hw 3.1) and ID6.

Now I have read up alot on this and there are bits of information everywhere, some of which contradicts.

So my questions are as follows.

I been told that if I want to keep DAB I need to find a unit with a green and yellow port. Is that correct?

Also I been told that I need a GPS emulatorr to use navigation because my telematics are not compatible with the nbt evo unit.

Also I think i read its important to have the vin of the donor veichle? Is this so i can update the maps?

I also read that if I can find one with a light blue port I can have WiFi? Would I be able use this for anything? I think i would also need to find a WiFi antenna?

I been told I will lose connected drive services is there anyway to retain this?

I'm also from the UK if that makes a difference

Your car can fit only an original BMW (aka OEM) screen up to 8.8". The larger 10.25" screen is for higher level cars (X3/5/7), that why it won't fit without trimming.

Android 10.25" screens will fit if said so, however they are of different quality so be sure to search the forums for user reviews before buying.

And yes, OEM parts cost more than 3rd party ones, that's a fact .

Retrofitting the head unit is a whole different story, please search the forums for threads on that topic. This thread is for retrofitting a larger screen only.

I’ve just bought a 2014 330d with the basic media with no nav (see picture). I’m not overly keen on the look of the screen with the plastic trim on either side of it. I’ve seen a lot of stuff about ENTRY_NAV and HU_ENTRYNAV, how do I find out which I have?

Is it possible to either

1. just to upgrade the screen to a one of the more modern looking ones like this one on eBay? If so, is this quote a straightforward unplug and plug in set-up?

2. Do a full upgrade of the system so that I can have satnav and play music through Bluetooth on my phone?

The first picture shows the main menu of the older, HU_ENTRY head unit, which doesn't support the larger screen.

Your options are either to get something like BimmerTech's VividScreen or an Android-based screen (search the forums for reviews).

Would this part number work for the larger screen 9387453.

I also have a 13 plate 120d with Pro nav, would the screen work out of this out of curiosity, I haven't stripped it down yet.

Post a photo of the iDrive's main menu or check what the map info says in your 18 3-series car.

Hi all, this is my first post since purchasing a 2015 F30 a few months ago. Loving my first BMW! I was hoping I could get confirmation on a query I have around upgrading the 6.5" iDrive screen to an 8.8" screen.

I noticed while cleaning the car the other day that the 6.5" iDrive display which came with the car has what looks like a hairline crack under the glass display. It's only noticeable from the passenger seat and when looking at the screen from a certain angle, but it might be a pretty good excuse to upgrade to the 8.8" screen! That thought got me to this forum, which has been a fantastic source of knowledge - thankyou all. Using what I have read on this thread I think I know how to do the job as long as I can source a decent replacement 8.8" screen. I just wanted to double check with the experts on here before I pull the trigger.

I have a 2015 F30 built in Jan 2015 with

• iDrive: NBT (CIC-HIGH)

I am currently looking at purchasing

The main worry is I've seen one or two posts on other forums which seem to hint that an 8.8" screen is not possible with my integrated Business Nav system. From reading on here it does seem possible, so I'm a little confused.

I have 2014 Business Nav with HU_ENTRYNAV and have installed the 10.25” screen (forget the 8.8” just go for the big one) aside from the dash trimming I only had to code what you’ve outlined above (except I selected the option for the bigger screen and higher res) and it works a dream.

Although amusingly BMW had the car today to installed a new selector which I’m told then took hours of coding and everything had to be updated so all non default coding was wiped. They of course noticed the larger screen which then didn’t work and apparently said that by having a bigger screen eventually my whole car will simply stop working...
Needless to say I had it back and coded the screen back and it works a dream.
