Hi again,

I followed your suggestion and bought 9387453 (the LCI screen). Now the issue is that I need to code it. I ordered more than (!) a month ago an iCar OBD2 bluetooth adapter from Amazon and seems it was lost during delivery since I still didn't receive it. So meanwhile I can't use a new screen since I can't code it. The question is according to your this post https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=39\ your car was already pre coded to higher resolution. Did it worked already after you replaced it (is higher resolution coding is enough to make it work at least)? What the second coding option (DISPLAY_VARIANTE -> "breites_display) actually does (the split screen funtionality)? I think maybe my car has already higher resolution precoded thus I can put it already and just wait till I will have a chance to enable the second option as well?!

Thanks in advance,

So guys please disregard my previous message. I already replaced the screen and nothing happens (black). Seems that high resolution is not set, will wait till will get way to code it.
P.S.
Lost one from 2 screws that hold the screen in place, need to order it as well

Unfortunately the second thing (DISPLAY_VARIANTE = breites_display) is what makes the larger screen work. The screen won't work even if the higher resolution is already coded correctly from factory. It'll be blank or show NO VIDEO.

EDIT: Just noticed your 2nd post

I noticed while cleaning the car the other day that the 6.5" iDrive display which came with the car has what looks like a hairline crack under the glass display. It's only noticeable from the passenger seat and when looking at the screen from a certain angle, but it might be a pretty good excuse to upgrade to the 8.8" screen! That thought got me to this forum, which has been a fantastic source of knowledge - thankyou all. Using what I have read on this thread I think I know how to do the job as long as I can source a decent replacement 8.8" screen. I just wanted to double check with the experts on here before I pull the trigger.

I have a 2015 F30 built in Jan 2015 with
  • Head Unit: ENTRYNAV
  • Navigation: S606A Navigation system Business
  • iDrive: NBT (CIC-HIGH)

I am currently looking at purchasing
  • the 8.8" screen part nber 65509292248
  • also just to check the correct 6.5"(my current screen) is part number 65509292247

And the once installed I need to code:
HU_NBT > 3000 HMI > DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION = 8.8_1280x480
HU_NBT > 3001 EXBOX > DISPLAY_VARIANTE = breites_display

I just wanted to check that the screen numbers above are correct for my setup and the codes are the correct ones before I go and buy the wrong one! The main worry is I've seen one or two posts on other forums which seem to hint that an 8.8" screen is not possible with my integrated Business Nav system. From reading on here it does seem possible, so I'm a little confused.

Thanks so much for your help!

If upgrading from entry nav 6.5 Screen to 8.8, will the split screen functionality still work I.e radio one side map the other? I had pro nav in the e91 and miss it on the f31. The main thing for me is the wider screen, appreciate that pro nav has some other features over business nav.

Sure, split screen will be enabled when you retrofit the 8.8" screen and you can have the map on the larger (left 2/3) part and the radio on the smaller (right 1/3) part.

The 2nd pic in this post shows how split screen looks like with the map on the left side.

Another pic in this post shows splitscreen with the map and radio on the newer (HU_ENTRYNAV2) head unit used in cars made in 2017 or later.

So I have a 18plate F30 with NBT Evo ID6. What would I need to upgrade to the 8.8 or 10.25 screen?

You need to get an ENET cable ($20 on eBay) and eSys software (or BimmerCode and Bluetooth OBD2 adapter), afterwards you can retrofit (instructions here) screen with part no. 65506822626 (search on eBay).

Before purchasing the screen, check that you have the HU_ENTRYNAV2 head unit - you should have a tile-based main menu:

https://www.bimmer-tech.net/blog/ite...cic-nbt-nbtevo
(see picture labeled "NBT Evo ID6")

After retrofitting the screen, you need to do some coding:

Code:
3005 DISPLAY_PIP_CONFIG:
CID_DISPLAY_SIZE = 8_8
CID_DISPLAY_RES = 1240_480
DISPLAY_VARIANTE = breites_display
If done correctly, this is how it should look like.

Thanks Marko for your confirmation. One question - the first link shows the map on the left with arrows/guidance on the right (no radio/multimedia display).

The second link is EVO/EVO2 which does have radio on the right. Just want to confirm you can have radio on the right even for NBT ? Thanks

Hello again!
So I finally after a long period of time received my OBD2 from VGate to make coding.
Paid for BimmerCode app full version.
Practiced coding on small change by modifying warning sound (set one from i series) - worked.

And finally, I was ready for a big deal:
Mounted new 8.8 LCI monitor on my LCI F30 with ENTRYNAV.

Then codded following settings
HU_NBT > 3000 HMI > DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION = 8.8_1280x480
HU_NBT > 3001 EXBOX > DISPLAY_VARIANTE = breites_display
(Please note: default resolution was 10.25_1280x480)

...and voila - nothing happens. Black screen. Fiasco...
Changed back DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION = 10.25_1280x480, no changes.

Reconnected physically 8.8 monitor 3 times in order to make sure that connections are ok.
The display was bought from eBay, from LCI model, has no scratches looks like a brand new. I don't think it is damaged.
P.S
By the way when set settings back to default with new 8.8 screen on head unit restart it became for millisecond whole white.

Any suggestions?

I don't know what to do, spent a significant amount of money, waited so long, and finally when I have everything that needed for retrofitting it simply doesn't work, and I even don't know why.

Thanks in advance,

6.5 & 8.8 Display specs

Posting here my issue solution for users that will have same issue in future and read this forum.
With help of MarkoSK in another topic I figured out that screen didn't work due to wrong resolution DIP configuration set on MMI module (part of rear view camera retrofit kit). After adjusting it from small to wide screen (additionally to car coding mentioned in this topic) everything started to work.

Hello all,

I have a F20 LCI from July 2018 with small screen (no nav) and ID6 (tile).
I would like to update to a bigger screen.
Can someone indicate which screen part is compatible with my car ?
Thanks

We've confirmed screen no. 65506822626 to work okay with ID6 (HU_ENTRYNAV2). However, it may not fit your dash - PM me your VIN and I'll try to look up the screen for your car.

Hi again guys,

Thinking about future NBT/NBT EVO retrofitting after warranty expiration and have now a small question.
Currently, as you probably read from my previous posts in this thread I have wide 8.8 screen LCI (9387453) installed on ENTRYNAV HU (ID4). The question is will this screen work with NBT EVO (ID6) HU or only touch screen is required?

Thanks in advance

I've found screen no. 9387547 for your car according to BMW's OEM catalog (www.realoem.com).

However, I recall someone retrofitting the F30 screen in a F20 LCI, and I've found the post https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=270

hoodooLCI has the same car as you have (2018 F20 LCI2) and according to him, the screen matches perfectly . His car has business nav, however that's irrelevant and the screen will work even without nav .

After you upgrade your screen you should reach out to Steve at codemybimmer and add CarPlay to your entrynav2 head unit. We successfully got it to work on my 2018 230i today. I have enhanced bt and WiFi hotspot but did not purchase nav. I upgraded to the 8.8" screen a few months back thanks to the help from this forum.
