320i battery alternative

Hi guys,

It's time to change the car battery and the dealer quoted me 660$ without the registration.

My friend suggested that I don't need to get an AGM battery

he suggested I get something like this ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bosch-Car-...-/231283411256) this is just an example not the actual

as long as the CCA is higher than 900 and AH is higher than 90?

The battery I have now is 90AH - 900CCA - 160RC

I checked lots of store in my area and all the AGM batteries price are over 550$

so what do you guys think? Is it fine to get none AGM battery with higher CCA and AH than the one I have now? Also, whats the minimum CCA since some websites suggested CCA of 800?

Please advise.

thanks...

You should stay with an AGM battery of the same capacity as the original, but by no means does that mean paying an outrageous price for it. In the US they're around $200.

^^ Yeah, few hundred bucks tops. God the dealer is awful with this kind of thing. Last time I had to replace a battery was in my GTI as these cars are leases and the OEM battery lasted all 3 years. Same bs with VW though, they quoted me $500 or something. I got a battery for $90 at Autozone and installed it myself.

Looking at realoem, it doesn't indicate the CCA but the min AH is 80 which is the orig battery. (There is 70 but seems to be only for additional battery, dont know what that means)

By the way, I don't see any 90 AH battery for f30. How come you have that? What is the MY and spec of your car?

OP's high capacity battery could be related to his location. The vehicle is the Gulf version. ETK explicitly states that if the original battery is 90Ah, the replacement must be 92Ah, P/N 61216924023. It's a $400 part in the U.S., so it's not surprising to see it priced over $500 in Saudi Arabia.

However, there's absolutely no need to buy an OEM battery from a dealer. That Bosch battery will work just fine (it's the correct size and specs). The only problem is that since you're getting a battery with different specs from the original, you definitely need to register it. If you don't have any tools, the easiest option is to get Carly. The software with the adapter will run you $100 or so, but it has tons of other uses besides battery registration.

(Extra hat tip to the OP for listing the vehicle VIN - much easier to give a good answer this way.)

thanks everyone for replay.

I looked at .... (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=61_2815)

and yes they mentioned "Note:
The installed 90Ah AGM battery is to be
replaced by the 92Ah AGM battery!"

BMW seems they always use the battery AH number.

I've been looking online for battery replacement and reading more about batteries. People always look for CCA and its the most important when you buy a new battery and it always should match your current battery or higher.

now the battery I posted before is 110AH, will that affect the car or something ????
