Got to agree with the comments. It all seems the same.

Interested perspective from my 9 year old son. As I'm housebound at the moment, he has enjoyed watching the old Top Gear challenges. Not at all interested in their "chatting" bits as he says!

In terms of the new episodes. He laugh at the challenges as they really new to him. But can be bothered with the "chatting" bits.

Wondering if their target audience is 9 year olds! Can't see I running for much longer.

I agree. This might have seemed normal about 30 years ago, but times have changed, even if Clarkson and co haven't. I'm not defending the programme. I did think his example to demonstrate why he wasn't homophobic was quite funny though.

They probably feel they are off the leash a bit and can get away with it not being with the BBC any more..?

I just watched the new episode, the Jag Project 8 bit was good, but the rest was total nonsense!

Agree about the gay jokes from the special, when we were at primary school we used to refer to things as being 'gay', but we were young children and it was 30 years ago, for adults to be doing it now is very pathetic.

I thought I'd give Columbia Pt 2 a try last night and it wasn't too bad. I thought that some of the gags were hilarious, but that's because I've been immobilised for a week due to my back, taking strong painkillers and diazepam. I could probably drop an anvil on my foot and find that pretty funny too.

Has Clarkson swallowed a fatberg ?

I hadn’t realised what a legend Jim Clarke was - drove in over 60 races in 1 season in multiple Classes . Awesome.

Yep this week’s episode was great, except for conversation street! Jim Clark bit was one of the best pieces ever by Clarkson, Hammond & May!

Why do they have to do the stupid dicking about episodes!?

Just watched it and have to agree with this and what others have said..what a driver, what a man. The fact that he could tell a wheel bearing was only slightly starting to wear when the engineers could not just shows how connected he was with the machines..what a loss at such a young age.

RIP Jim Clarke

Best episode for some years indeed. Some ok car chat, A normalish segment on the Alpine, a reasonably entertaining 'dicking' around one on the Urus, and one of the best pieces they've ever done on Clark.
It doesn't seem all that hard to do... why can't they hit that standard more often? :

It doesn't take a huge budget, or to blow up a helicopter, it just needs their true passion for motoring to come through.

+1

Yep, totally agree
I guess they mix it up in an effort to keep everyone happy. The driving focused episodes are so much better. Thats when the trio play to their strengths. I do wonder how much they enjoy the 'dicking around' stuff these days? They look tired and bemused by it all to me

Finally got round to watching the latest episode and for the most part it was ok. However, I'd agree the Jim Clark feature was by far and away the best bit; visited the Jim Clark Room in Duns a few years ago and will make a point of going to see the new memorial museum which is due to open in Spring this year.

Always difficult to compare across eras but for me Clark is the best there's ever been; super quick without being hard on his cars and a clean racer who never resorted to dirty tactics in order to win - can only imagine how much more he'd have achieved if he hadn't died so young.

Lots of support for the Jim Clark episode - really enjoyed that. What a talent.

I went to watch this weeks and didn't get past the description on Amazon. Basically titting around China in old cars.

I just can't do it.

One good episode (Jim Clark) and now we're back to the same old tired drivel.

It should be on a hospital trolley with the letters DNR on the clipboard.
