Yeah... I have a bike too!

I own a 1996 Honda VFR750 that I ride about 7 mos. out of the year on really nice weathered days, which averages about 1 or 2 times each week... and I drive on super highways to and from work... so about 50 miles each time I take it out of the garage. I did just take a 6-hour trek 1/2 way across the state to attend a funeral service. That was quite a ride. I think I will always have a bike in addition to a car or two. It is just too much fun to not have it.

I am in the EXACT same boat. My dad used to ride a Royal Enfield Bullet back in India in the late 70s early 80s before moving to Canada in '84. Some time around '89 he went back to India and was riding again and somehow flipped the bike and slid into a wall. Miraculously he only broke his arm and got some road rash. Funny thing about how stubborn the men in my family are, he didn't go to a doctor or a hospital for 3 weeks after until he came back to Canada and my mom forced him to, he just didn't use that arm for that long. Probably why the recovery was so long and painful too.

Anyways, the funny thing is my dad doesn't care in the slightest and is sortof quietly encouraging me. My mom on the other hand is not having any of it. My plan is just to wait it out since they are letting me live at home while I do my undergrad and I don't want to rock the boat. I am planning on going to Law School in a year (maybe 2 if I do the victory lap) and at that time will be moving either accross country or accross province, and will just get one then anyways. Besides, have you seen the insurance rates for an under 25 male on a sportbike? I was quoted roughly $9,000/year on anything over 500cc and about $3,000/year on anything under. I'm only 4 years shy of turning 25 at which point those rates drop to almost negligible levels, and I'll put up with a year or so max at $3,000 for my learning bike.

Yeah, my rents said no bike while they are still housing me at all. So I started renting an apartment over the summer too and got a $3K bike as a starter... still have it after 1.5 years and I love it.

I will be getting a new bike once I stop buying other expensive things (house, car, etc)

BEcaseu I love yamaha, even though I always loved Ducati too.
I have had 4 R1's , three R6's someothers.
Had yamaha ATV, YZs, wanverunner, and jet boat. I love yamaha.

But yeah Ducati, I actually went and checked out the 848 a month or so ago, and I don't know that I could buy that when the 1098 is not much more, then the 1098s is not much more then that..
and the Desm,,,, oh wait thats way more.

You should shop around with insurance - I have been riding since I was 18 - and even when I was 19 my insurance wasn't nearly that much.

If you are looking at R1's or R6's its one thing, but something like a Triumph Bonneville or even a sportier naked like a Monster, street triple, or SV650 should be considerably less to insure.

I highly recommend looking into Ball Insurance - which is a progressive DRIVE agent. They are very competitive - and were about $800 cheaper than AIS for me!
