The old piece will not have the leds to illuminate the trim. I have a 2016 428 and it doesn't have the illuminated trim. The illuminated trim is new on the 2016 3 series LCI. If you want the piece to be illuminated, you will have to buy the trim for the LCI 3 series.
Yeah I have it already, I had it fitted to my 428i and removed it before the car went!

I sent an enquiry to local dealer through BMW website for the items above and also the trim. Couple of the parts had to come from Germany but all delivered in 3 days.

My missus is away next week and installing this is a little project for me for then.

Does anyone have an odd gap right above the bookmark numbers?

No, that is not normal.
The upper control module probalbly is not entirely in the guiding on the trim piece. I've seen it before.
You need to assemble it again and make sure each module is in its guide.

Swedes considering this swap might want to know that all required parts came to a total of 660 SEK at the BMW dealer in Solna. The trim piece was cheaper at BMW than Schmiedmann (440 vs 509 SEK).

I picked up my trim and modified parts list to make this all work on my 16 428. Turned out great. Thanks for the DIY.

So, carried this out this evening. All in took 1 hour. Could probably have done it quicker but was making sure that I didn't inadvertently snap or scratch something. Hardest part for me was disconnecting some of the cables, they were absolutely solid!

Looks great, absolutely thrilled with it.

Dante. Are you still selling the Y cables?
If yes, do you post to UK?
