70 Plates

Anyone got a new car yet?

Nothing exciting for here, but pretty good for my 75 year old mother in law. New Seat Arona FR Sport DSG that I sorted for her was collected today.

I quite like it. And the Seat experience was pretty good. Never ordered one before, but there are literally no options on these models. The spec level determines what it comes with and you can’t add anything.

This is specced quite high with wireless phone charging, folding mirrors, 18 inch wheels, heated seats, nav, digital dash, parking sensors, cruise and materials inside all feel great quaility. Much better than the lower spec we test drove.

48 months, £225, with £2k deposit that all came from her trade in. Miles low though, only 5k, but she only does about 3.

Looks a good car for the type

two near where we live - a Merc GLB which looks quite interesting and a new Merc E class (facelift) replacing a 520d. Couldnt see the badging well enough but suspect the Merc is a hybrid and think they do a diesel hybrid which I guess is good for BIK and fuel consumption if you dont plug it in much...

M340i T in mineral grey with opal white interior and a few extras on our drive in 4 weeks. Sadly not mine....

List was £22,710. Dealer offered £4K off total, carwow was £4.3k best. Then went on DtD and got £5.5k online, which local dealer matched, no hassle. So nearly 25% discount.

Also used Wizzle offers on her trade in to determine price for her car, which again they matched. Pretty good experience all round.

Just make sure she knows she needs to save up another £2k for the deposit next time as she hasn’t any trade in then.

Called Stoneacre, but same ones yes. Bought from Volvo before as well. Harder work with them, but still got there in the end.

I've often wondered why Seat haven't done better. They don't seem to be very popular compared to VW or Skoda for that matter.

They’re pretty strong in the UK I think. I see loads of Ateca and Ibiza’s around. The newest Ibiza is pretty good looking in my opinion.

The old one in FR spec was popular for some time.

Not fair to compare to a giant like VW, but in the U.K. at least they’re not too far off Skoda in sales, nearly 69,000 against Skoda’s 75,000 in 2019.

I'm in the process of similar with the wife's car. Trying to buy a new Polo. Had an orange wheels quote with 19% discount but they're PX offer was terrible and they don't actually have any cars so had the up sell nonsense.

Local dealer wasn't interested in the slightest. Have a contact at my local Audi dealer who has VW in his dealer group, so spoke to him and I reckon I'm about £300 away from where I need to be

WBAC were offering strong money for the PX

I think they struggle a bit for an identity - Audi is the posh brand, Skoda is the good value brand, VW is the peoples classless brand, and Seat is ? the sporty one? not really....

I always reckoned there was a disproportionate number of Seats in Chestefield as Skoda dealer was tucked away down in the old Bridgegate site, Audi were in Mansfield or Sheffield and VW in Chesterfield up Sheepbridge were shit.

But there cars were good, got very close to buying an Alhambra twice....

The low annual miles should help

If the GFV is set for 20k miles and it only has 11-12k then there should be a little equity left over.

Sales figures don’t lie. I’m assuming the 69,000 cars sold last year weren’t all in Chesterfield.

Nearly double Mazda figures. I can’t believe Alfa won’t pull out of the U.K. one day when I look at their figures. How can they support a dealer network with 3,400 total sales in 2019, even if costs are shared at most places.

At 75 years old on a 4 year pcp I don’t think she’ll be too worried, but thanks.

And she may well have £2k deposit next time. Her last car was a Renault Captur which she went the full 4 years on. Zero deposit put in, £199 a month, but still had £2k equity at trade in prices when she ended.

She could have also lowered her standards to the FR, still pretty good, for £30 less a month if she needed to. And budget was up to £250 a month with whatever her car had in it. Think she’s done alright.

We looked at Polo and Ibiza for her before decided on the higher up Arona.

Out of the 3 the Ibiza was the best looking car of the 3 for me. And with spec
levels I’d take it over the Polo I think.

Nope, I wasnt saying they did. What I was doing was giving my view on the question asked and suggesting that local dealerships play a part if brand identity is missing. There is no Seat dealer where I live and I dont see many...

I read today that Mitsubishi have pulled out of UK. Alfa and Fiat may have done the same if the 500 hadnt kept Fiat afloat. Merger with PSA and intro of hybrid drivetrains may save them now.

I looked at both the Ibiza and Arona, but the deals just weren't as good as the Polo from what I found

Managed to get in to a brand new 1.0 80PS Match for £165 a month. 19% discount or so, and £2k in between cash and equity in the PX.

Local dealer wanted £210 for a similar deal

Also get 3 months free, which by my man maths takes another £10 a month of the remaining 44 months
