DIY Tip: Windshield Cowl Repair
Like many other members, the rubber seal on my windshield cowl was becomming brittle and chipping away. The price of a replacement part in Canada is $135+tax which is a little steep in my opinion so I decided to try out a repair instead of a replacement and the result was great. Sharing this so other forum members can also go this route (if you haven't already) and save some $$.
What you will need: Windshield Cowl Rubber seal I got mine from Ali Express but you can get this from amazon/ebay as well. Mine came with some double sided tape on the inner side that rests on the windshield. Doesn't help much but doesn't do any harm either so with or without works. Here is a before pic to show the state of my seal. Step 1: Remove the wiper arms and all the plastic pieces including the windshield cowl. There are multiple videos on youtube to go over this process. Was pretty straightforward. Step 2: Use a blade cutter and cut the worn out rubber from the cowl. Here is a picture of the finished surface. Step 3: Fit the rubber seal. You can use some instant glue to secure it to the plastic. This is not required but helps keep the seal in place during install. Step 4: Reassemble all parts back and you are good to go. The best part about this is that if you ever need to replace the seal, you don't have to take everything apart. Here are pictures of the finished install. Great bang for the buck. Hope this helps!

Exactly what I was looking for! I didn't see the need to replace the whole thing. Thanks for the post! I'll have to order some and do this. The chipping away is bugging me lol

Thank you! Glad it was helpful.
So far, everything has been holding up very well in rain and snow conditions. Infact, I just took the rubber seal off yesterday to clean it and put it back. No brainer DIY for anybody who is facing a worn windshield cowl seal.

Held up well so far and doing its job. The nice part is I’m able to take the rubber strip off and clean it and put it back on.

Can you take some more photos of where the glass meets the molding, please? I'm wondering how tight the new mold fits against the glass.
Thanks!! Last edited by natesi; 06-19-2023 at 08:03 PM.. |
