428i Xdrive faster with MT ?
When i check BMW official specs it is written that Manual transmission Xdrive 428i is faster from 0 to 100 km/h ( 5,6s) than the automatic ( 5,8s).
link: http://www.bmw.be/fr/new-vehicles/4/...nicaldata.html On the north american BMW site, the difference is bigger, 0-60mph being achieved in 5,6s on automatic and 5s on manual. link: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...fications.aspx Is this a typo, considering it is always the opposite, automatic being the fastest on every model ? |

Typo
Here, Xdrive is not available with a manual in the 328 or 428.

I would not obsess over factory stated quotes such as power rating and 0-60, they are both rough guidelines.

Also if 2000 € would give me 0,3s from 5,9 to 5,6 i would certainly pay it, factory numbers or not. Could somebody confirm ? |

Just to flood a lil bit more, here are the technical data sheet from my dealer in Belgium, stating clearly that Manual 428iXdrive is 0,3 sec faster that Automatic 428iXdrive.
As anyone ever wondered about this ? I mean i am certainly not the only one hesitating to pay 2000 euros to gain 0,3 sec plus AWD ? |

If you're wanting performance I wouldn't get x-drive. The suspension sits 10mm higher and floats above 110kph. Also M-suspension is not a factory installed option so you would have to go aftermarket to upgrade. KW does make a awesome aftermarket option that clears these problems up but it's not compatible with M-sport variable steering and dampeners (Dynamic Handling Package). Same reply as your other thread...
Just keep this in mind... When you see a reported time for an AWD car, the launch has to be kind of aggressive to take advantage of the added traction. If the two cars(RWD and AWD) are launched the same way, with an softer launch, the RWD car will be faster. So if you are not going to do a semi abusive launch on the street, xDrive will not be faster from a dig. And to add, identical cars, same engines, but one carries an extra 150lbs, it's at no time going to be faster than the lighter car. BUT, with xDrive, it CAN plant more power from a standing start, but again, that requires more revs and a bit more abuse to get it ahead of the RWD car.

I had forgotten this since i've gone sdrive and i cant go back now, but BMW phoned me to answer to a mail i sent 2 weeks ago about 428i xdrive manual 0-100 time and they confirm 5,6 seconds. Thats the fastest 428i. They cant explain why thou, EVERY automatic transmission being faster than manual counterpart... strange ?!
