N20 Turbo Sound
Hi,
I am trying to make sure the turbo in my F30 is in good condition, as I am going to have to replace the oil feed line and want to make sure the turbo is good so I don't have to do the job twice. I recorded this sound on my phone, so there's not a lot of audio depth, but does this sound like a sick turbo or is this what I should expect? Particularly the high pitched buzz/whistle at the top of the acceleration. Additionally, any other signs I can look for to assess the health of my turbo? 60k miles on it btw. Electronic waste gate. |

If you're going to hear anything out of the ordinary you need to record it at the front of the car with the hood open. In the back all you can hear is the exhaust.

Guessing the audio still wasn't clear enough based off of your response though :/ |

I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary. BMW N20s always sound like an out of balance washing machine. That said, replace the timing chain tensioner. It's the most likely source of timing chain failure.
