I have the rennline, but I don't like the magnet stuff. I picked up a cheap vent mount holder from wally mart, and with a bit of mcgyvering got my ideal mount. No magnets, no steel plates on your phone, clean install.

Recently bought & installed this one:
Wireless Car Charger, VIKASI 10W Qi Fast Charging Car Phone Holder, Air Vent Automatic Clamping Car Charger Mount Compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note 9/8/ S9/ S8,iPhone Xs Max/XR/X 8/8 Plus(Black-Red) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NX57FV9..._fOpDEb5KJNSR4 Adhesive mount, same general area as Kuda mount. Works well. It does seem like the wireless charging is slower than cable charging, but the convenience and secure mounting is worth it to me.

Simple magnet mount plus a vent mount, depends on need. I like both.

Hello Forum Mates,
I would like to contribute and am cutting/pasting from an entry (https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1653075&highlight=factory-installed) that I posted elsewhere on this forum: "I would recommend avoiding the types of mounts that would take your eyes completely away from your line of sight and below your dashboard horizon: CD Slot Mount; Cup Holder Mount; mounts that plug into your 12v outlet; Rennline Phone Mount. Now, you may find that you’ll be able to comfortably master the fleeting glance between your NAV app contained within that 6”’ screen of yours and the road ahead. But with two elementary-school kids usually riding in the backseat, I just don’t want to risk it. Vent Mount, perhaps? Well, at least we’re getting closer to the dashboard horizon. However, I am personally not a fan of having any device block the vent’s airflow or any of the buttons on the front console. Windshield mounts are probably better. But, IMHO, they remind me of fancy Erector sets that look kind of aesthetically unappealing and/or will potentially obscure the view ahead. Hanging your cell phone in front of you, in any case, will certainly obscure your field of vision to some degree. Ideally then, one would want to find a dashboard mount. Bizarrely though, the general problem that we F30 owners are going to encounter (well, at least I am encountering) is that there just isn’t really any available real estate. The limited space between the top of the instrument cluster and the windshield directly above prevents anything from being set up there. Meanwhile, the middle of the dashboard is occupied by the Central Display Info screen and the mid-range speaker. And, there really isn’t much space at all between the instrument cluster and the driver-side A Pillar. Hmmm… what to do? Well, despite my ambivalence towards the vent mount, I wanted to say that I have come across one (of the hundreds that I’ve seen) that has at least piqued my curiosity. Scosche MM2VP2SR-SP MagicMount Pro Universal Magnetic Phone/GPS FreeFlow Vent Mount for The Car https://www.amazon.com/Scosche-MM2VP2SR-SP-MagicMount-Universal-Magnetic/dp/B07VP77JDB/ref=sr_1_17?keywords=scosche+magicmount%E2%84%A2+d ash%2Fwindow&qid=1567811120&s=home-garden&sr=8-17 This one is an “elevated” vent mount. At least it gets me closer to my preferred view that’s eye-level to the dashboard. So, that was what I had purchased and here is the review I subsequently posted on Amazon after having some time to formulate an opinion: "I like how you can “angle” this mount any which way. The neck rotates 360 degrees around the clip that you secure to your vent. Thanks to a ball joint there, that neck can also be adjusted maybe 30 degrees along the axis. There is a similar ball joint where the neck meets the magnet mount. So, there is a lot of flexibility regarding how you can “customize” how to position your smartphone. I give this 4 stars and not 5 for these two reasons. First, I wished that the magnetic mount was rectangular instead of square. The added surface area of a larger magnet would probably make the connection even more sturdy. Also, the mount is prone to wobbling. That’s not because the connection points are loose. In fact, you will need to apply a little elbow grease to adjust the mount. Your car’s vent slat is plastic. The neck of the mount is plastic. So, there is going to be “give” when you go over bumps, if for example, the neck is set in the 12 o’clock position. To combat this, what I decided to do was to attach the mount to my upper-right section of the vent closest to my door. By adjusting the neck to the just-before-12 o’clock position and attaching my phone to the magnet, the left side of my phone lies firmly against my A-Pillar thereby creating a pseudo-snug and non-wobbly fit. Well, it works well for me. And, even though I think most mounts are “a-dime-a-dozen”, I do most certainly like this one." Well, may you find something excellent that works for you! I am looking for something for the left of the steering wheel that mounts securely to the dash or A Pillar, doesn't use magnets so the phone will be completely secured, and can turn 180 degrees to put the phone in landscape mode. I'm not worried about blocking the vent. The ProClip Left Mount or A Pillar Mount looks promising, but their website says it is not compatible with my car (2016 F30). Thoughts?
PS -- The long post above goes into great detail as to why the phone should be mounted near eye level, which I agree with, but completely ignores the fact that vent clips and magnets are not secure and can allow the phone to drop or fly around, which in my opinion, is even more dangerous. |

I hate to disagree, but I am going to anyway. I don't know why anyone would feel safe traveling 65 miles per hour wrapped in 3300 pounds of steel surrounded by dozens of other people traveling 65 miles per hour wrapped in 3300 pounds of steel (some of whom may be enjoying their DVD in motion while commuting ) would even entertain the possibility of a 6 ounce piece of metal and plastic distracting them by dropping into their lap or sliding across the dash or falling onto the floor and sliding under their feet. I guess some people have a higher risk tolerance than I do.

I didn't see anyone mention quadlock. They are out of Australia and make a really nice case for all major phone manufacturers and mounts for almost any situation. They lock in on the back of the case and allow easy access all around. The wife ordered the windshield mount and wireless charger for me for Xmas, we will see how that works, I'll update once installed. I know many aren't fans of windshield mounts but the F30 has very few great options because of design of the dash.

Havent tried any of theese models exactly but various phone mounts with the same functionalty. They all have one thing in common. An aweful rattle sound when you drive without your phone in the mount. But then i am really sensetive about noises like that. Maybe you would not care |

I’m using a simple non-permanent solution, since I only use a dock in the car on long trips or when I’m logging.
It’s just the plain metal Apple iPhone dock (perfect size), which snugly wedges in my driver’s cup holder. It’s easy to plop the dock in the cup holder when needed, and it positions the phone perfectly for me to both reach and read. (I angle it so the top of the phone leans back flat up against the dash, and it stays there well.) It’s not a solid-enough connection to use while tracking the car, but works great in normal driving. And the Apple dock and cable are small enough to easily store away in the dash cubby until needed. |
