*** OFFICIAL bootmod3 de-cat with OBD readiness THREAD***

So I'm sure anyone who has searched this forum for a solution to pass state inspection and emissions testing knows, there isn't a good solution for a 2014+ F30 with catless downpipes. Many people have tried the CATSim/Area 54/VRSF DP fix with no success. Others have tried bung spacers and various other bolt on fixes, again without success. Currently, I only know of one fool-proof way to pass and that is to replace our catless DP's with the stock DP and run it just long enough to pass emissions testing. I have heard of tuners that would make an "off-road" custom tune that suppress the de-cat CEL but also show system readiness and will pass the OBD emissions test. I have yet to find a tuner that will do this. So, being that bootmod3 allows any user to edit a copy of their stock tune, I was hoping we could pull together as a community and figure this out once and for all.

I'll start with this. I have set myself up as a tuner with allows me to copy and edit my stock map. I've called it "Stock Tune MOD". After clicking on the "Stock Tune MOD" map I can choose to edit the map. Once authenticated via typing in the VIN I enter the map editor. There is a whole section devoted to "de-cat" as well as "startup" which seems to be mostly associated with the cat-heating cycle. In the "de-cat" section there are 1-9 de-cat tables. I'm assuming one or more of these are associated with the de-cat monitor and possibly system readiness. All are set to 1.00, in stock form, which I'm assuming is on, and if set to 0.00 would be off. I'm hoping that someone with more knowledge of tuning can help me out here.

I am pretty sure the custom tuners have the suppression of cat monitors as their "secret sauce"; will be really surprised if they reveal it.

I'm one of those who tried catsim and it did not work for me. Sub'd to this thread!

We might get lucky. Halim from PTF is providing some insight to my FB thread.

OK so it looks like I got a little help from the master himself. Now I have a bit of homework to do. Make the edits, flash and see if the readiness monitor shows active.

So quick update....after more research and conversation with tuners, yes you can get a custom map from a tuner that will allow readiness with CEL disabled for catless DP but it's highly illegal and costly (up to $2500 for the tune). The tuner can send you a raw BIN file that you can flash via bm3, but the bm3 table editor does not allow you to do this. Any manipulation of the decat tables will prevent the car from entering readiness state. Evidently, there is a subroutine in the DME that handles emissions so you have to dig into the raw code to bypass it. I guess we'll just have to get good and swapping downpipe to pass emissions.

nnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooo

I know some states allow for at most 1 monitor to be in a non-ready state... so those guys luck out it sounds like (as long as everything else is up to snuff)

Emissions readiness is the reason I haven't installed a catless DP yet. I'd be FBO if I can be sure to pass.

So for NY: https://dmv.ny.gov/brochure/what-do-...cars-not-ready

Quote:
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines allow up to two monitors to be in a "not ready" state for model year 1996 through 2000 vehicles and one monitor "not ready" for 2001 or newer model year vehicles.

This is a great thread. I live in NY and definitely need this.

BY the way, I know 100s of tuners here in NYC that will put any car in a readiness state for as little as $200-$300 as long as you're guaranteed not a cop lol

In NC we are allowed for one monitor not ready to pass OBDII inspection. I just asked in the bootmod3 FB group how many monitors show not ready with the OTS tune and CEL delete. Will report back if I get an answer.

Growing up in the Bronx the spot was always Jerome Ave

I live in Westchester now and haven't had to pass emissions in years. This BMW is taking me down a slippery slope, lol.

This is interesting and could be a game changer. Spending that money to have a map just for emissions time would be great, but if you have to pay each time, might be better to do the swap. Mine is coming up next year and then every other year.

My cousins tuner does Subaru's mostly and did his STI with a great tune for $400 but it's a permanent map he doesn't use Cobb or anything just keeps that street tune with all time readiness.

Has anyone tried to pass emissions testing with bm3 tune? I'm a bit confused from what Halim is saying on FB, but it sounds like the tweaking the de-cat tables won't affect the readiness monitors, which contradicts that other tuners have said.

Any insight on the dialog below?

Can't you just make the tweaks and check an app like Torque to see if the monitors are ready or not? I get my down pipe this weekend so i can check then if no one else has.

Passed Maryland self serve emissions testing with bootmod3 flashed. But I put the stock cat back in.
