2014 F33 Cost of Ownwership

I purchased a 2014 F33 in 2017. It was CPO and still had warranty and maintenance coverage to 50,000 miles. The car now has 75,000 miles as of May 1, 2023, or 72 months and 61,000 miles.

Total cost of Maintenance and Upgrades: $6,631.67
Total spent on mechanics: $231, plus costs of tire shops.
That's about 10.8 cents per mile, or $92 per month.

The Big Ticket Items:
Tires: $1,600. Two sets. Second set has a lot of tread left.
M-Performance Brake Upgrade: $2,181.69: An expensive upgrade, but I did need new pads and rotors. But I could have replaced for just $500.
Valve Cover Replacement: $330
Water Pump/Thermostat/Belt/Belt Tensioner: $677
Transmission Service Kit (Oil Change): $191
Oil Catch Can (Upgrade): $266

Oil Changes cost about $400.

I could have shaved about $2,000 from this, so the 6-year, 61,000 mile total expense works out to about $4,500 with two sets of tires. That's $62.50 per month and 7.3 cents per mile. Excluding the tires, maintenance (parts) has cost me $2,900 for six years and 61,000 miles.

I also installed a CarPlay upgrade system, which was an additional $500.

Good report with excellent detail.

I’ve had mine coming up on four years and logged 16,000 miles. I will need rear tires before the summers over and that will be the first out of pocket expense. These appear to be solid runners.

Thank you.

Compared to my Toyota Prius, the BMW has been far more expensive, and it's needed much more work, but it's a lot more fun to drive than the Prius.

I try to maintain my cars perfectly. I read online forums such as these, learn about items which tend to fail and replace them proactively or at first sign of trouble. The Prius is 11 years old and 175,000 miles, the BMW 9 years old and 75,000 miles. Neither car has ever broken down. For example, my BMW expenses include a change of the "lifetime" automatic transmission fluid, installation of an oil catch can, replacement of the entire valve cover and not just the gasket. When the thermostat began to fail, I replaced the thermostat, water pump, several hoses, belt tensioner and belt. Proactive maintenance. Only the thermostat needed replacement.

In general, BMW has to use environmentally friendly plastics inside their engine compartment, and those items break down. Fix it in advance or fix it on the side of the road.

I'm definitely on FCP Euro's Xmas card list!
