Turbo upgrade

I am looking for a turbo that's not the ps2 that can hold boost past 5k rpm. I am currently fbo with xdi35 and custom Cary Jordan e85 tune. I haven't gotten dynoed but I believe I am pushing 440-460whp. My turbo is ewg and it falls on its face after 5k rpm. I am pushing 20psi before 5k rpm. From reading I think the pure stage 1 is the same as ewg. What about the Dinan or do I have any other options?

Do some research for more details or more options available but aside from Pure there's also bigboost and speedtech.

What are your goals with the car might offer a better solution to your question?

Do you have any logs of your current setup?

Below are some logs. I just want to hit 20psi all the way to redline. I figure that I don't need to go ps2 to do that. Any other turbo options that don't need to replace manifold beside dinan or ps1?

I would advise against PS1 since you have an EWG turbo. Curious as to why you don't want to consider a PS2?

Cost of install for an upgraded turbo is going to run the same across the board.

Your logs don't look horrible but why are you easing off the gas pedal mid run? Shows you start 100% on the gas pedal and then start easing off as the log ends. Any reason why?

You might want to check all 3 logs because pedal percentage shows otherwise.

Ok. Cary Jordan said they look good. Do you see after 5k rpm the turbo falls on its face? I don't necessarily want more power I just don't want turbo to fall on its face. My bmw mechanic wants $800 for ps2 install and he wants a lot less for just turbo install.

Upgrading the turbo is the only solution if you want to run more power past 5500rpms.

Not sure what you mean regarding your tech wanting less for a turbo install vs ps2?

He will not have to take out manifold etc for a direct replacement turbo.

Will the Dinan hold boost better after 5k rpm compared to stock?

SpeedTech's kit is the best. The Borg Warner EFR turbo is awesome.

How much of a difference in price is the install from an entire kit to just the turbo itself?

I do not know enough about what the Dinan upgrade will and will not due BUT I'd assume that if your goal is to hold 20psi of boost past 5500 rpms then you theoretically should be good with the dinan.

I'm not sure i understand, replace turbo with turbo a,b or c, what's the r and r difference? If you have to remove the manifold for a particular turbo then i would say that's more expensive but correct me if i'm wrong, the PS2 uses the stock manifold and the speedtech and big boost use their own manifold so PS2 should be the cheapest, no?

Ps2 comes with own manifold.

From what I understand OP is looking to modify the existing turbo without having to remove the manifold/turbo. You are correct that the stock and PS2 come attached to each other which are not able to be separated.

The only option for OP is upgrading the compressor side of the turbo. Which is about a 30% increase over stock EWG but only on the compressor side.

If you are going to spend money, OP would be better off just doing a complete turbo upgrade since he's already FBO with supporting fuel upgrades. But everyone is different i guess.

I've installed downpipe, chargepipe, intercooler, xdi35 hpfp, intake and turbosmart bov. How hard would it be to install the ps2? Do you think if I installed everything else I can install the ps2?

I'd say give it a shot and watch any videos regarding installation.

Technique is technique, and it sounds like you have done a lot of the harder things. The big challenge with the turbo is that you are going to need to grab either a hoist or an engine support brace because you will need to remove the passenger side engine mount for max clearance.

Take a good watch at Kies's video on the PS2, gives you a good idea on the install.
