M Performance Brake Price?

I swear I read in a thread that someone said that they were able to negotiate the price of their Brake Upgrade when buying their car. My dealer is telling me that they have never heard of BMW parts being negotiated.

So, were you able to get your M Performance Brakes at a price lower than MSRP? Or does anyone know what thread that was I read? I searched with no luck.

They are on eBay for $1700 or so which is pretty good, being sold by a BMW dealer.

Yea, I saw that. $1700 plus an extra $400 for the rear so $2100 total. I really wanted to get this rolled into the car loan but I guess I can just buy seperately. And then what, have the dealer install?

How difficult would the install be? I'm pretty handy w/ modding but I've never done a full brake swap. I'm curious if there are specialty BMW tools required.

Should be a pretty easy DIY.

Some BMW dealerships (bmwofridgefield.com, darienofbmw.com) are offering 20% off of installed accessories, so there's your matching point...20% can help immensely.

Buying or leasing? If leasing I believe the parts installed at the VPC can be residualized.

True..
Been trying to get specs on weight reduction with these, and no dealership or part/service person can help. Anyone get any specs?

Brochure says "lightweight aluminum calipers and rotors", but the WORST thing you can do for your performance is add more unsprung weight to your wheels.

Looks wise..can't go wrong. But why buy for looks!?!

Aluminum weighs a lot less than cast iron, so there should be decent weight savings. Would like to know the specs though.

I had no idea the stock disc's were cast iron.

Yes, easily weight savings realized there.

And I"m assuming stock calipers might be heavier than these re-badged Brembo's too....
Hmm,

all discs are cast iron. if the M Sport kit uses two piece rotors, it will have aluminum hats bolted to cast iron disks. Since the rotor is the heavy part and furthest from the center of the hub, it won't make much of a performance difference but will have some benefit on how quick the suspension reacts. Basically, less unsprung weight is good but in this case, its not spinning weight so not as much benefit in braking/acceleration.

Now, the calipers being aluminum will also help but being larger, they're probably the same as a smaller cast iron stock one.

Bottom line - this kit won't necessarily have any weight benefits to speak of but it would be interesting for someone to put the stock parts on a scale along with this kit while they're doing the install.

as for negotiating a price - keep in mind that a car dealership is essentially a mall with different stores inside. The M Sport kit (if not ordered through BMW or port installed), is a Parts Dept sale. The Sales dept pays what Parts charges them and then marks it up to you. Same goes for the Service Dept doing the install.

So, buying the kit at the time of sale of the car can potentially cost you a LOT more than if you just go to the parts counter afterwards. When I bought my MINI, I wanted the JCW brake kit for it. The Sales dept told me it was $2500 installed ( ). The kit retailed for $1200 and Parts sold it for $950 over the counter. Service charged 2.5 labor hours for install (about $375), meaning the Sales dept added over $1K to the price for the "convenience" of financing it into the deal.

ALWAYS go to Parts & Service and get these costs BEFORE negotiating the deal. That will put the profiteering of the Sales Dept in check and keep money in your wallet.

I didn't want to start another thread to ask this question but isn't there a thread here where someone outlines all of the different brakes, rotor sizes, etc?

I searched and couldn't find it but ultimately I'm curious if the M-Sport rotors that came on my car are the same size as the rotors that come w/ the M-Perf brakes.

Ok, I just found this in a wheel thread:
Quote:
Brake sizes:

328i front brakes: 12.3" / rear - 11.8".
328i M sport brakes - front: 13.4" / rear: 13.6"
335i front brakes: 13.4"
335i M sport brakes - front: 14.6" front / rear: 13.6" rear
I'm almost sure that the M-Performance rotors are 370mm front and 345mm rear and those number converted to inched are 14.57"/13.58"

Just not sure if the original poster is correct on those sizes.

Anyone know how much dealers usually charge for the brake install, labor hours?

Those are not for the us as our M Sports have standard brakes only with euro pads.

Ah... I'm literally thinking about getting the MPerf brakes just so I can avoid some of this stupid brake dust. I wonder if there's a market for my OEM M-Sport brakes...

Well, 335 brakes are an upgrade to 328 ones. I will do it, but some people think their 335 stuff is worth thousands lol.

If you were to buy them new, it would be thousands but I hear what you're saying. What are you looking to pay? Maybe we can find a win win...

I think on BMW's website they claim 3.5 hours install time, so I'm guessing if you go 3rd party you might be able to get 3 hours. But so are you guys now just planning on putting OEM 335i brakes? Aren't the M performance brakes even bigger than the 335i brakes?

I am cheap with this car and willing to wait for these to be common...or get a sponsor and get a BBK for free.

Thanks anyway
