They're both the same concavity, profile 3. The 9" has 4mm more material thickness at the hub.

wouldn't you have to factor in the extra .5" in width as well divided by 2? they are different widths so i didn't know if just using the offsets was advisable.

they're both profile 3, deep concavity. both faces are low pressure cast in the same mold, the barrels are "flow formed" to the desired width, then the mounting pad is shaved to the desired offset.

EDIT, i stand corrected by the post from APEX below, thanks

Both the 18x9.5" ET35 and 18x9" ET31 have effectively the same concavity and in terms of appearance, it would be nearly impossible to spot the difference. The wheel pads on all sizes remain the same to allow the OEM hardware to be used in spacer-less applications. It is difficult to directly compare offsets and concavity with differing widths of the wheels in question. It is not a direct comparison and gets to be a little bit complicated. The concavity will change slightly with different offsets as they are made from different molds, however it will be very difficult to notice with the naked eye.

You definitely can't go wrong with either finish. Hyper Silver always looks classy, but Hyper Black is a bit more unique and seems to change appearance depending on lighting.

Here are the fitment specs for the 2011 E90 335i above:

APEX ARC-8 Wheels in Hyper Black

Front: 18x9" ET30 with 235/40 Michelin PS4S tires

Rear: 18x9.5" ET35 with 265/35 Michelin PS4S tires

Suspension:
  • ST coilovers
  • M3 front control arms

Wheels look really good. Nice to see how aftermarket rims look on stock suspension. I’m done with lowering cars.

Can anyone educate me why the fitment guide suggests et 42 for track and not also suggesting et 30/31 offset? I know both will work, I just wondered what benefits the et 42 may give?

Hi there,

On the F3X chassis, the 18x9" ET42 requires a 5mm front spacer to fit on stock suspension but will provide you with a bit more fender-side clearance compared to the 18x9" ET30. This is beneficial when running more aggressive R-compound tires, as you will be less likely to rub compared to running the same tires/sizes on the 18x9" ET30.

With that being said, the 18x9" ET30 is typically the superior choice for a square setup on the F3X, as it does not require a 5mm front spacer and is able to provide a direct fit in most cases when using street tires. We have seen customers run 245/40-18, 255/35-18, and 255/40-18 tire sizes on the 18x9" ET30 on stock or lowered F3X's without any rubbing. However, due to the lower offset, you will have a higher chance of rubbing on the fenders if you plan to use more track-focused tire compounds.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out!

The car is primarily used for daily driving but will see 3-5 track days a year. I wanted a setup that is GREAT for both duties. I got heavily into the motorcycle scene and did some club racing. Recently sold my motorcycles (don't worry, I'll be back) so I needed something else to have fun with. Only about 80 miles so far on the wheels and tires, but I have a good feeling about the Yokohama A052s.

Here is a comparison of my OEM wheels to the Apex wheels:

The OEM wheel is the front wheel (225/40-19) that weighs in at 50.9lbs while the Apex wheel weighs at 42.5lbs. I also weighed the OEM rear wheel (255/35-19) which was 55.6lbs. Big difference in weight savings.

The car is currently on M-Sport adaptive suspension, but hopefully that will change soon if I can find some KW or Bilstein in stock. Here are pictures of the car when I got it off the lift:

It's really nice having 2 in ground lifts at work

Here are pictures of the car this morning after putting some miles on the new wheels and tires:

Overall, very happy with the setup! Just for reference, here's my old E46 M3. What can I say, I have a thing for silver BMWs with Arc8 wheels

Sorry I’m late to this party but what finish are these? Looks like Anthracite or hyper black? Setup looks perfect by the way. I’m looking to do the same but undecided between 255/35 or 255/40 (18x9) on h&r sports.

So I’ve read through pretty much every thread on this subject but haven’t quite found confirmation for my F30 XDrive on H&R sport springs: For the Arc 8’s 18x9 et 30, can I get away with a squared setup of 255/40 in Michelin PS4S? I’d like to keep the thicker sidewall due to road conditions around me. I’m not opposed to 255/35 and I know 245/40 is basically a direct fit with my setup but I’d like the wider wheel coverage if I can manage it without rubbing. Thanks for the help!

P.S. I appreciate your previous response a few months back. I’ve since decided to stick with 18’s rather than 19’s due to road conditions and tire prices lol. Will be ordering in the next week or so. Finally!
