I did that with my tuner who had a custom map for me when I started with BM3. He gave me his 4mb file and I added it under my maps and flashed.

Same here I am all set to order the mhd flasher and bimmergeeks cable but still wondering if maybe should wait to see what happens with bm3.

MHD claims they're OBD2 flash yields the same capability as a bench unlock. Is that true? Is that even possible?

I had mhd on my E92 335i. They surpass all of their claims.

E series is E series stop comparing to F series for once

I also seen PTF Cobb Custom Tuned E series leaving MHD/JB4 cars in another zipcode in the track and real world scenario.
But again this is F series different animal.

Keep in mind, OBD unlock (i.e. port flashing without pulling the DME to do a full read on bench first) will never restore the car 100% the way it was pre-tuning today and that applies to all flash tools today. Software/calibration/coding data can be flashed back to stock but historical data on flash counters, flash date etc cannot, at least not yet. Some tuners also go further to update the car to some specific version so they can get you tuned easier which also causes a change to software IDs on the car which causes further differences at diag time at a dealer.

None of this matters if you just want a tune and don't care to be bothered with these details

There's really no way of completely being invisible to dealers with the tunes but at least with a bench read you can be fully invisible at least to diagnostic tools when they're plugged in as the DME will read exactly how it did just before you got a tune loaded on it. The only visible trace at that point will be the silicone seal on the DME lid but they need to physically look at the DME, pull it for that which not everyone is up for if you're simply returning the car unless there's a good reason for that.

Unfortunate truth is BMW may also close the backdoor everyone takes advantage of for OBD unlock in a future BMW software update like they've done in the past on earlier models. If they do that it may set everyone back to getting bench read/unlocked yet again, but until then..

We'll run with both options available to end users so you can choose your way of getting it done but just because OBD unlock is an option, knowing what you gain/lose getting tuned that way we feel is something people should be able to know and make a decision on.

it gets replaced with a better flash, and then most likely gets flashed back to your base flash (mppk) when you are looking to go back

Don't forget E series never had EWG. So MHD may not have the same expertise they had on the E-series with F-series due to that.

PTF has been working on F-series ever since it came out and has been exploring the DME for a long time now. Their support is absolutely amazing and I'd trust them enough to give my car as a guinea pig if they asked.

LOL, I am telling Terry I'm not getting MHD so he has another bunch of customers who MAY want BMS Bef on the Bootmod3 side ;-) , it's only benefit for him. There's a lot of people who still prefer Flash only because they wont pay extra for
boost controller lol.
