So I have a strange question,

I looked at retro fitting the tpms system to my 2012 F31, but looking at the need to make a look and buy a new controller ECU and the sensors kinda put me off. However o still prefer the look of the metal tyre vales, so my question is can I buy a service kit( which is the metal valves) and fit these to my wheels without the sensor attached and use them just as metal valves?

Or anyone know of a retrofit kit Inc loom at a reasonable cost?

Many thanks

This is no problem.
You can just install the metal valves.
But after that the wheel should be balanced, as the metal valve is heavier and can lead to an imbalance.

Excellent, I thought as much, the metal valves just look nicer I think.

Thanks for your help.

TPMS error

I have a F30 330d 2016 model I have done the coding but I keep getting an error. I tried the coding on the beginning of the thread but I don't need a tpms receiver so I am missing something

My TPMS must be part of the DSC. What is the correct coding for Newer model cars 2016 models?

FEM
RC_RDC_ENABLE = aktiv

ICMQL
IcmKod_B_S2VBA = verbaut

DSC
C_Funktion_RDCi_l = nicht_aktiv
C_Funktion_RPA_e = nicht_aktiv
C_RPA_Extra = nicht_aktiv

HU_NBT
RDC = aktiv
RDC_DRUCK_TEMP = aktiv
RDC_FORTSCHRITTSANZEIGE = nicht_aktiv
REIFENUEBERWACHUNG_RDC_RPA = rdc
RPA = nicht_aktiv

KOMBI
ST_TYR_RDC_ALIVE = aktiv
ST_TYR_RDC_TIMEOUT = aktiv
KOMBI DSC_MIT_RPA = ohne_RPA

Also when these settings come from me (i think) there is a wrong value.

DCS
C_Funktion_RDCi_l = aktiv

and

HU_NBT
RDC_FORTSCHRITTSANZEIGE = aktiv (not important)

But that's not a guarantee that it will work.
For some people it worked, for many people it didn't work that easy.

TPMS still not working

I have coded the following

FEM
RC_RDC_ENABLE = aktiv

ICMQL
IcmKod_B_S2VBA = verbaut

DSC
C_Funktion_RDCi_l = aktiv
C_Funktion_RPA_e = nicht_aktiv
C_RPA_Extra = nicht_aktiv

HU_NBT
RDC = aktiv
RDC_DRUCK_TEMP = druk_und_temperatur
RDC_FORTSCHRITTSANZEIGE = nicht_aktiv
REIFENUEBERWACHUNG_RDC_RPA = rdc
RPA = nicht_aktiv

KOMBI
ST_TYR_RDC_ALIVE = aktiv
ST_TYR_RDC_TIMEOUT = aktiv
KOMBI DSC_MIT_RPA = ohne_RPA

I have the upgraded dsc its a 07/2015 build F30 VIN NT48013. Everything is there no errors after coding but no indication of tyre pressure or temp it stays dashed. Any suggestions are welcome.

Based on my research (and I could be wrong), the DSC MK100 uses one of the factory Radio Remote Control Receivers to communicate with the 209 wheel sensors.

Since my vehicle is an early 2014, the factory installed Radio Remote Control Receiver would not communicate properly with the 209 wheel sensors (at least that was my assumption based on the error message reported by Rheingold).

At the time, further research led me to believe that I would have had to replace too many components to get this setup to work, including the Key Set/FEM so I abandoned this approach and purchased an RDC module/872 wheel sensors and followed the instructions in this thread. TPMS has been working fine since my last post.

I did not attempt to use the factory installed MK100 DSC/Radio Remote Control Receiver with the 872 sensors. Give it a try and if it does not work, just purchased/install the RDC module.

Hi all, hi Larry

I'm having issues with my original rdc system intermittently showing rdc system not active. 99 procent of the time, it just works fine.

the faults given, always come from one or 2 front wheels. Sensors, changed but problem stays.
It's a 2015 F31 318da and i have the mk100 system in my car.
Is there anyone here that can confirm wich remote system in the car is used that is working together with the mk100 system?

My mechanic changed the remote control receiver in the right side of the boot today, but i am confused reading on some sources that the rdc system is integrated in mk100???

All help appreciated!

Hi Cruez,

I cannot confirm absolutely but based on your model year, I would think your MK100 is providing the RDC functionality. I would be very surprised if your vehicle has a separate RDC module installed (typically attached to the underside of your vehicle to one of the straps securing your fuel tank).

The Remote Control Receiver in the boot (that your mechanic replaced) is the antenna/receiver the MK100 (i.e. RDC) uses to read the TPMS sensors. Is your TPMS now working properly?

Was this the component your mechanic replaced?

Hi!
Im 99 % sure that nothing is under the car. But my question is : do the sensors in the 4 wheels send their info to the mk100 under the bonnet or to the remote control receiver in the boot(what a strange place!?)

For now its working. But before it did sometines work perfect for weeks. And then 3 days in a roe throwing faults every 10 minutes.
So i will be sure after some time.

Strange enough i did not really had issues with te remote locking...

Thx for your answer, and my excuses for the bad English.

The 4 sensors are sending to the remote control receiver if the RDC control unit isn't installed (since 03/2014 in EU models).

The Radio Remote Control Receiver in the boot is used to read the status of your TPMS wheel sensors. Your vehicle has multiple "Aerials" for Comfort Access or for remote access. In my old F32 (and likely for your F31), the interior aerial used for remote locking/unlocking of the doors is located under the central console by the "ash tray". FYI, your vehicle will have multiple (up to 8) interior and exterior aerials, depending on vehicle options.

I am not surprised the Radio Remote Control Receiver used to read the TPMS wheel sensors is in the boot. This location is similar to the location of the (separate) RDC module used the older TPMS system.

On my 3d attempt I succeeded to get tpms working. It seems there is some changeover of the sensors in 2014 to 2015. Ok so fist sensor i put in was 209 partnumber on the end. Then I got a second set 209 on the end and fitted x3 of them and kept x1 of the other 209

Then I got a set of 1891 partnumber on the end made by continental. Fitted x2 of them to the rear wheels and wholla system works now with 2 different sensors but same partnumber 209 front and 1891 x2 of them on the rear.

The result

And the coding was done the same everytime. It seems some how these 1891 sensors& from Continental that replaces the 1890 did thet trick. So i got 209 in front and 1891 at rear. So all of them work on the F30 but it seems the 1891 activated the system.

In any case, the sensors with the 209 are not original.
The 36106856209 has not been manufactured or sold by BMW since 2016.
And the original sensors are labeled BMW or Continental, like your sensors with the 6891.
But it's OK when it works.

Hello!

I am trying to retrofit RDC in my November 2015 F10 (L8LAA National version, India) and I have installed only the wheel sensors 6855539 assuming that my DSC is MK100.

I have VO coded 2VB but the following are missing in FDL coding.

FEM
RC_RDC_ENABLE = aktiv (There is no FEM module present)

DSC
C_Funktion_RPA_e = nicht_aktiv
C_RPA_Extra = nicht_aktiv

I have coded the following successfully and the HU shows green tyres with -- values for pressure and temperature and a message that values will be measured when the car moves. But after a few moments I get a

"Tyre Pressure Monitor (RDC) failure
Unable to detect any loss of tyre pressure" message.

HU_CIC
RDC = aktiv
RDC_SAFETY= aktiv
RPA = nicht_aktiv

KOMBI
ST_TYR_RDC_ALIVE = aktiv
ST_TYR_RDC_TIMEOUT = aktiv
KOMBI DSC_MIT_RPA = ohne_RPA

The RDC module is also absent while coding.
Is it that I need to install the RDC receiver or am I doing something else wrong?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I think that only works for one in a thousand people that you only have to retrofit the sensors because you have the DSC MK100.
For most people it doesn't work that easy and you also need the receiver.
Also there are some other codings or ecus for an F10.
You can try this but i have not much hope there.

DSC_Premium > Allgemein 3000 > Funktion_ReifenPannenerkennung_aktiv = nicht_aktiv
or
DSC_CT01M > DSC_CODIERDATEN_ALLGEMEIN 3000 > C_Funktion_ReifenPannenAnzeige_aktiv_I = RDC

ICMQL > Daten 3000 > IcmKod_B_S2VBA = verbaut

KOMBI FPK_I12 > ERM_Konfiguration 3004 > ST_TYR_RDC_ALIVE = aktiv
KOMBI FPK_I12 > ERM_Konfiguration 3004 > ST_TYR_RDC_TIMEOUT = aktiv
KOMBI FPK_I12 > FZG_Ausstattung 3003 > DSC_MIT_RPA = ohne_RPA

HU_NBT > EXBOX 3001 > RDC = aktiv
HU_NBT > EXBOX 3001 > RDC_DRUCK_TEMP = aktiv
HU_NBT > EXBOX 3001 > RDC_SAFETY = nicht_aktiv
HU_NBT > EXBOX 3001 > REIFENUEBERWACHUNG_RDC_RPA = rdc

I will try this on the weekend; if it works then I am good to go else I will have to abandon this project as I have not been able to locate an RDC receiver.

I had the same issue of no cafd when I tried to retrofit RDC to my F20.
I tried connecting e-sys as F10, I also tried flashing RDC ecu but e-sys wanted to hwdeinstall the RDC ecu as the f20 never came with RDC.
I would try those two methods first as they are safer than the method below which only applies if your model never came from factory with 2VB as an option.

Only do this is you are very confident in using e-sys and are willing to risk bricking your car if done wrong...

1-connect to car using e-sys
2- expert mode -> coding -> read FA -> Activate
3- save FA
4- edit FA
5- in FA change vehicle vin to the donor vin of the RDC module (vinlong). Change build date to donor vin build date(zeitkriterium). Change build code to donor vin code (typschlussel). Change model code to donor vin model (entwicklungsbaureihe)
6- calculate FP (I had to remove some salapa options for it to calculate ie. 7AC as F10 never came with that option)
7- save FA
8- go back to expert mode -> coding
9- answer yes to loading modified FA or load it manually
9- read VCM (SVT)
10- click on RDC ecu in SVT tree
11- click "detect CAF for SWE"
12- choose latest istep cafd

!!!!YOU MUST DO STEP 13!!!!!!!

13- read FA (very important otherwise you risk writing donor vin details to your car and brick ECU's)
14- expand FA and check for correct vin, etc
Be very careful and ensure FA matches your car NOT donor car including all changes done above.
If FA still has the donor vin click "read" again. Donot go any further until the FA matches your car!!!
!!!!ONLY NOW IT IS SAFE TO INJECT THE CAFD INTO THE RDC ECU!!!
15- right click on RDC ecu in SVT tree and choose "code"
16- manually find the modified FA file you saved earlier and delete it. Donot risk accidentally using that file again.

You now have a valid cafd in the RDC ecu (with your vin). Now you can code other ECUs mentioned in this thread to get the sensors working.

Hope this helps others...

I have a question that I'll appreciate if somebody can help me with. I have a F30 328i with production date 2012/11 EUROPE. Which set of control unit/sensors should I use to retrofit TPMS on my car?

1. Control unit 6876227 / Sensors 6856227? or;
2. Control unit 6855180 / Sensors 6798872?
