More Sidewall!

So, I have a F31 Msport with the staggered setup.
Front Size:
18" 225/45-18

Rear Size:
18" 255/40-18

Has anyone ever gone up a sidewall size? I want a more comfortable ride, the roads in LA are god awful. These current low profile tires are really annoying, any pot hole feels like my car is detonating.

Again, Im not worried about lap times, I just want a more normal ride.

I have the stock Pirelli P7's on it and I hate them....looking at Michelins.

Thanks!

Those tires already have a fair amount of sidewall so you’d probably be satisfied just changing the runflats for normal tires.

I recently replaced the MPSS on my 2016 F31 with THP with MPS4S. I stayed with 225/45 R18 Front and 255/40 R18 Rear. New tires feel softer than the originals (star marked BMW).

If you consider going square, there are a few who are running 235/45 R18 all around. That tire has slightly more sidewall than 225/40 R18 and according to some fills in wheel gap a bit and is softer (tire dependent).

Lol I’ve got staggered 20s. So I replace control arms like oil changes.

Interesting, thanks. I like having the wide tires in the back though, aesthetically.
I wonder if you can do 235/45 R18 In the front and 265/40 R18 in the back and it be compatible with Xdrive.

Depending on the specific tire you choose, that's likely to only be ~1/10th of an inch difference overall diameter. Should be fine from a center diff perspective.

I put Konig 17" wheels on my car soon after getting it. They are just over 17lb, and the tire weighs another couple of lbs less than an 18".
The setup is sometimes called "country performance". The lighter weight makes the ride much better, and the rubber stays on the road better over little skitter bumps.

I love them, & would never go back!

The only correct way to add more sidewall is to go down a wheel size. If you just add bigger tires on the current wheels you mess up speedo/odo and may have rubbing issues.
