Or, you can carry this in your trunk. Very good reviews on Amazon.com.

this is a good solution for a small nail and such but not on everything, spare tire grantees that you can drive home safely and not worry about it. in addition to the spare i have similar can of sealant for small nails. it doesn't weigh anything and costs $5 in Walmart

I considered sll these things but in the end i thought it was a lot of pis#ing about...!
The more experienced time served BMW drivers convinced me otherwise.. Ill stick with BMW approved runflats...Approx £30 extra to non rft..... Tread will last for between 25k-30k miles |

What exactly is that supposed to mean? We're all EXPERIENCED, and many of us have been driving these cars for over a decade. What exactly is YOUR definition of "more experienced"? |

More experienced than me......That is all I meant The latest run flats perform just aswell as non runflats......so why bother worrying about storing: 1 jack 2. Spare wheel 3. Wheel Brace 4. Tin of slime that may work. Winters here ?.i think , another reason why not to be messing with flats?.

Run flats cost much less
Perform much better Much softer Quieter Last double the miles(most) - run flats last 15k at most, tested by me multiple times It is a bit of a hassle to carry extra items and change the tire if something happens. But for enthusiasts it's all good, at least for me positives outweighs the negatives

ZheHbKa: I've followed your solution pretty close. I managed to get a whole spare tire setup for about $100 out the door. I found an 05 BMW x3 in the local picknpull. I scored a spare tire with a 135/90/17 already on it (made by continental), a BMW jack, tire chalk, and lug wrench all for around $35 . I'm sure the dude cut me a deal at checkout. Anyways, the 15mm spacer and 45mm lugnuts were $65 online. It definitely clears my brembo front brakes and spins freely I'm not super pleased how much trunk I lost because of the tire. But It's better than being stranded. Next I'll build some sort of a cover for the tire so at least I can set stuff on it. Maybe I'll even upholster it, who knows.

If I put after market rims and tyres(not RFTs) will they affect suspension and associated systems. Advice given to me by a wheel and tyre specialist.

This is what I have so far. Not the prettiest but it works. The floor panel sits flush with the trunk latch now. It's a bit of a loss of space but now I can use me cargo net again :-) Someday I'll upholster the wood and try to close that gap that lets you see the tire. One nice thing is this can be removed if additional space is needed. I do like the tire bag idea also. I might do tire bag inside this contraption. That way I can leave the box at home and put the tire in the back seat if needed.

Runflats are rubbish, well certainly the OEM Goodyears are, I don't know how long they last but others who obviously travel on better roads than here in the UK claim they wear out quickly, I haven't had one last more than about 5000 miles before failure often catastrophic. Two tread separations at the top of the side wall, tyre pressure warning to 0 pressure in less than a minute, one blowout at speed in these 3 cases car had to be recovered, and 2 tyres with bulges in sidewall caused by potholes or sunken drain cover. ( And before someone says you must have been running them flat I regularly check the pressures and the TPMS was working at all times) I believe if you use goop to fix a nail puncture the tyre places refuse to fix the tyre and if you don't goop it they refuse to fix it because they don't know how long its been driven flat. Since changing to non-runflats no failures at all. I believe that while in high profile sizes they may be ok these tyres in 35 and 40 profile are unfit for purpose and unfortunately this will be my last BMW unless they come up with A SPARE WHEEL. |

I just bought the E30 135/80R17 wheel and tire on Ebay for $140 shipped to my door. This is for a 340i M-Sport XDrive (with M-Brakes)
The only thing that makes me a bit nervous is that the size is slightly different that my OEM tires (225/40R19 and 255/35R19) When I use this site, it gives me 26.1" for my current tires vs 25.5" as the height (or diameter) for the spare. https://tiresize.com/comparison/ Since ECS Tuning is also selling the same size in their kit, I am hoping that this will be tolerable for a short distance at slow speed. Not an issue if you have RWD, but on a X-Drive as you know all the tires should be identical. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...112159861~oeb/ Now i just need to find some spacers and try out the whole thing. |
